WTF, did he really say that???
I am still trying to puzzle out 240 minutes since June.....
Maybe Heyneke can help with Jacques' counting...

Nienaber is doing a number on Fassi for sure.

When Fassi does start again, I really hope he scores a hattrick before halftime!!

The hype is just off the scale for the poor lad at this moment. He could almost be called 10Bar.....

I am more concerned about Nienaber manipulating facts to justify his selections.

If he is playing Fassi along just release him ffs

I'm inclined to agree. He's hardly played any rugby in recent months, looking forward to him getting back into a Sharks jersey.

Blame it on loadshedding and boredom.
Anyway. Won't get the match this weekend.
We are booked into a spot close to Witsand for the weekend. The plan is for absolutely no technology or contact with the outside world. A cleansing.

Its a rumour circulating. Of course its a mystery to all why Nienaber is lying about Fassi"s gametime so the speculation is that all is not well. Of course the black media is spinning the racist side , whilst a person with inside knowledge at the Sharks ( supposedly ) has said that he has heard that Fassi has a big head......

I suppose that it would need to be measured to verify.

Must be that game yes. 2 starts against Georgia and Argentina and the SA A Game vs Bulls.
Ever since the Jake White era every players' total play time and rest intervals is recorded and plugged into injury prediction models to see when they need a rest to try and avoid some types of injuries.

As good as it is, I think a lot of fans underestimate how vulnerable our defensive system is when the decision making isn't 100%.
Nienaber has been developing this defensive pattern for at least 12 years, and it is particularly vulnerable if the wings make incorrect reads on defense.
This takes a lot of time to practice...on the training pitch, in the video sessions and (ideally) with some game time to get practical exposure in real-world scenarios.

For all his physical gifts and skills, we do not know how well Fassi is showing his understanding and adoption of this system at training.
I have no doubt he is a smart guy and has internalized it, but we don't really know, and he hasn't really been challenged yet in defense against any of his opponents when he did get a start.
Not his fault, obviously, but it might be that the coaching team are either not sure about him yet, or that the stakes are just too high for them after the 2 losses against the Aussies.
It is more likely that they have decided to stick with a more conservative team just to try and ride out their performance clauses in their contracts for 2021 and start fresh in 2022.

Maybe, but if you recall the team that Fassi played in for that match lost against the Bulls.

Not his fault sure, but the SA A team’s defense broke down and was completely exposed in the second half of that game.

Fun starts here

SA A blow a 14-0 lead to lose the match in the last quarter. Neither try was Fassi's fault, but he was out of position for both of the linebreaks which only happened because the correct defensive pattern wasn't adopted by the wings and Similane who were all new to the system. Fassi was also out of position and got the run around once the line was breached, but like I said, not much he could do by then.

Expected 1 win out of 3. We got it vs Wales, so any win from now is a bonus, specially England.

The last time we went 3/3 on a NH tour was 2013.
2 wins on a tour pretty much the norm since then.

2013: 3/3
2014: 2/4
2015: RWC
2016: 0/3
2017: 2/4
2018: 2/4
2019: RWC
2020: Covid
2021: 1/1*

Clean sweep is definitely possible, but realistically we should be too surprised/disappointed if we lose 1.

I'm just talking trends boet.

We've gone to the Europe with strong teams under many successful coaches in the past.
The Boks coming home with a perfect record is a rare feat, regardless of who the coach is.

I found it quite interesting. Went all the way back to 1996.

Markgraaf:
1996: 3/3 (was actually 5/5 because we went to Argentina for a 2 test series before heading to Europe)

Care du Plesis:
Got axed after 7 matches. Never got a chance to take the Boks North

Mallet:
1997: 5/5 (great tour, great team. We destroyed Italy, France and Scotland by record margins)
1998: 3/4 (ended our 17 game winning streak)
1999: RWC
2000: 2/3

Viljoen:
2001: 1/3 (actually 2/4 as we stopped by the USA for a match after Europe)

Straeuli:
2002: 0/3
2003: RWC

Even Jake White's World Cup winning Boks never managed it:
2004: 2/4
2005: 2/3
2006: 1/3
2007: RWC

Peter de Villiers
2008: 3/3
2009: 1/3
2010: 3/4
2011: RWC

Heyneke Meyer was surprisingly successful up North:
2012: 3/3
2013: 3/3

2014: 2/3
2015: RWC

Coetzee's tenure was a disaster. Meyer left him with little to build on AND his game plan just did not work at Test level:
2016: 0/3
2017: 2/4 (a win against Italy and a 1-point win against France)

Rassie:
2018: 2/4
2019: RWC

Nienaber:
2020: Covid
2021: 1/1*

Anyway, can Nienaber get 3/3? Yes.
Am I hoping he does? Absolutely.
Will I be devastated if he doesn't? Nope...given history 2/3 is the expected outcome.

Cheers for that, top work. I remember only some of it... mainly 1997 and 1998, what a great team that was. And 2009, another GOAT team, that was lacklustre at the end of a overly successfull year, getting beaten by France and Ireland iirc. Thank god no recollection of 2016.

All good. It was actually quite enjoyable checking out those old results and teams.

I think a lot of our perceptions and expectations of NH tours are still based in our dominance pre-2000.
From there England became a real bogey team for us, tripping us up regularly.
Then as we became progressively worse and NH teams became stronger we started dropping matches against Ireland and Scotland.
We used to have some magic power over Wales for the longest time, but once they popped their cherry against us, we became their bunnies for a long time. I'm glad that trend is reversing.

I remember that 1997 tour quite well.
Very bittersweet recollection of that Scotland test where the Boks blew them off the park and won 69-10 was also the day my grandfather passed away earlier that day.
It was the first Springbok match I'd ever watched alone without my dad as he was at the hospital.

I took my girlfriend from London to Edinburgh for a weekend away to watch the Boks play that match. I proposed to her at a Grassmarket pub that evening. I have a framed picture of myself with Kryauw Otto, Adrian Garvey and Andre Snyman outside a pub called the Black Bull. It was their last game on tour and the okes were tearing it up big time. My wife always says I seemed more emotional about meeting the Bokke than proposing marriage to her.
