Not really bothered by all the mistakes tbh. Pretty typical for the first game of the season.

More concerned about Justine's mystifying inability to properly pronounce Telea's name.

Didn't really expect such a blow out in the second half.
Another $40k from Sky to the cyclone relief fund.

You'd think given his job he'd put a bit of effort into getting non-English names right.
Anyway, next up in a few minutes is the Reds vs the Canes...

I really rate Cam Roigard. Wouldn't be surprised if he's pushing hard for higher honours by the end of Supe '23.

Very good Supe debut for Peter Lakai.
Edit: ditto for Roigard.

Good win to the Canes after a ropey start. There was a lot to like. Aumua was so impressive when he came on.

We've waited a fair old while for Aumua to show us what he's capable of... perhaps this year will be the second coming of the beast. The Aussies rave about Taniela Tupou but I'm not convinced he's actually all that effective as a front rower. He's more of a wrecking ball in the loose so they have to carry him a bit at scrum time. Aumua is the whole package and will probably do some real damage this season. I hope so.
The 'Canes possibly come away with the most convincing performance of the Kiwi teams... shipping a massive win away, in Australia playing in serious humidity and heat.

I hope so. He'd almost become a forgotten man. Making the ABs at such a young age as an "apprentice" probably went to his head and held him back a couple of years. Would be great to see him kick on from here.

The Super Supe Round about to kick off. Not sure why it's the Super Super Round for any other reason than it's all in the same place, but anyway... can't escape the feeling the Highlanders are in for a hiding tonight...

Given how rugby is desperate for funds, I don't see how taking a prime, all NZ clash away from NZ makes any sense at all.

Worryingly, the Saders have looked poor and the score is already looking like a 40pt margin.

I'd hazard a guess that it's got something to do with keeping the Aussies happy after their whinging at not having a broadcast deal on par with NZ... after both unions negotiated their own deals after the end of the previous iteration of SupeRugby.
All games this round are in Melbourne. Hugely hyped in Aus and held in the one main city that doesn't really give a shit about Rugby Union.
