'Australia is a lucky country, run mainly by second-rate people who share its luck.'
The phrase 'the lucky country' has become part of our lexicon; it's forever being invoked in debates about the Australian way of life, but is all too often misused by those blind to Horne's irony.
When it was first published in 1964 The Lucky Country caused a sensation. Horne took Australian society to task for its philistinism, provincialism and dependence. The book was a wake-up call to an unimaginative nation, an indictment of a country mired in mediocrity and manacled to its past. Although it's a study of the confident Australia of the 1960s, the book still remains illuminating and insightful decades later. The Lucky Country is valuable not only as a source of continuing truths and revealing snapshots of the past, but above all as a key to understanding the anxieties and discontents of Australian society today.

The Chip has arrived. Yeah we know Australia is evil. Funny thing is though a quarter of sheepshaggers choose to live in our Country over NZ.
Funny that isn't it lol.......
That cope is on South African levels
And you probably think This is Australia is also about how fab Australia is.

Moeen retires from test cricket. Decent career and very selfless at times depending on what the team needed from him.

I was at the game so didn't have to tolerate that fuckin eejits banalities. For some reason he thinks I'm worried about losing to Australia and don't realise this is a warm up for them and development for us. But that's because he's thick as fuck (which is obviously why his ancestors were deported). Enjoyed it, in the haar, pegged the aussies back well in the second half of their innings, but nobody clicked in the batting, Munsey got over excited after knocking seventeen off the first over. We go again tomorrow.
Would you recommend a day at the Grange for Scotland games for a neutral? Usually try and tick off 1/2 new county grounds a summer, considering adding Grange/Titwood to the list next summer

It can be a cracking day out - I actually think they could do a hell of a lot more to make it more of an event, but nonetheless it’s nice being able to move your plastic chair around the ground.
I remember watching the West Indies playing there in the 90’s and Curtly Ambrose bowling a red apple that someone in the crowd had thrown him. Pitched in front of the batsman and disintegrated scaring the shit out of him. Umpire started have a go at Ambrose and he was literally rolling around on the floor laughing

On a Monday, with one team needing 100 runs to win the test match, cheapest adult tickets for today's test match are £75. That doesn't seem priced to get a crowd in.

Deserved loss for England after a mediocre series with the bat and the arrogant selection of a completely untested medium pacer. Bashir has also not looked like he's ready to be the main spinner when the wicket isn't a dustbowl, he's had a very poor series.

On the bright side you have the Aussies tomorrow apparently for a T20, what could possibly go wrong.
Has it stopped raining in around Greater Noida yet? Complete shambles apparently.

I think it was a deliberate ploy for the BCCI - have NZ play in the north during the monsoon. "Lets see them score any points for the test championship up there".
Tinfoil hat off.

Undoing all the brilliant work up front,
2 in 2 then 3 in 3 balls
172-9 after 18.1

Mickey Vaughan's son Archie got a 5-for at Taunton, knocking over Surrey to get a 111 run win
Makes the runin for the county championship title interesting, but suspect Somerset will be bridesmaids yet a-fecking-gain.

Meanwhile in Greater Noida, uhmm neither team clearly ahead, we might know more when the first ball is hopefully bowled on the fifth day! Why on earth they aren't making this a ODI is beyond me. Right might have to have a go at Cricket 22 to get some overs in (probably shite at that game as well).

Maybe so, but neither side gains a win and an increase in their win %.

Short form cricket has its place and its charms, but it can never offer up the sort of drama and finish we had in Taunton, that is pretty much unique to multi day cricket. Superb stuff and couldn’t have happened to a nicer bunch

Absolutely this.
Short form cricket is an excuse to get pissed in the sun and have a laugh with your mates.
Longnform cricket is a fascinating, intricate sporting competition with changing moods and individual ebbs and flows over many days. And also an excuse to get pissed in the sun with your mates.
