New Zealand Rugby investigating claims drugs were snorted from Ranfurly Shield
Claims drugs were snorted off the broken Ranfurly Shield during Hawke’s Bay’s celebrations are being investigated.
Stuff was sent a photo of the damaged Log o’ Wood on Monday morning, with white powder evident on one half of it.
“They snorted drugs off the frickin Ranfurly,” the caption said.
New Zealand Rugby (NZR) and Hawke’s Bay Rugby Union are aware of the photo and are investigating in a bid to verify the claims.
“NZR is aware of new images circulating on social media related to the Ranfurly Shield and are making further enquiries to Hawke’s Bay Rugby,” NZR said in a statement.
It’s understood NZR are meeting this morning and a further release is expected...

A Hawke’s Bay rugby player has been charged by police following the after-party celebrating their Saturday win, the provincial union’s CEO confirms.
*************************
On Monday afternoon, Hawkes Bay Rugby (HBR) CEO Jay Campbell confirmed to Stuff that one of their players had been charged by police.
The confirmation comes after Stuff asked the CEO if one of the Magpies had been involved in a drink-driving car crash.
“A player has been charged by police and it is now an employment matter.”
Campbell said he had spoken to the players at the party and been assured by them that the shield had been damaged by accident after being dropped onto the concrete floor of the kitchen.

A Hawke’s Bay rugby player has been charged by police following the after-party celebrating their Saturday win, the provincial union’sCEO confirms.
The team's celebrations left the treasured Log O’ Wood badly damaged. Footage of two-test All Black Folau Fakatava holding a broken piece of the Ranfurly Shield surfaced on social media on Sunday – the day after the Magpies wrestled it off Wellington in the capital.
Stuff was then sent a photo of the damaged shield on Monday morning with white powder evident on one half.

...NZ Rugby general manager community rugby Steve Lancaster previously said the national body was “deeply disappointed’’ at what had unfolded, and would now take the Ranfurly Shield off Hawke’s Bay to assess the damage inflicted during the team’s celebrations after it beat Wellington at the weekend.
This is escalating quickly.
Perhaps the Hawke's Bay union should reflect on their decision to leave the hallowed Log in the care of reckless, disrespectful children.
A very bad look all round...and it's sure to get a lot worse yet.
Edit: Beat me to it, Guy.

Whanganui is one of the few provinces since 1907 to have never won the Shield...after almost 30 challenges. We've come close a few times - a 15-all draw against Taranaki way back in '64, and a 9-16 loss to Auckland in '76, but nothing remotely close since.
I'd like nothing more than another fair crack at the Shield, but it ain't happening in my lifetime.
But Hawke's Bay, who can seemingly win the thing for fun, treat it like a piece of firewood.

Extraordinary.
You probably wouldn't have seen this furore

involving another log being vandalised in the UK.
Just WTF is wrong with some people?

Couldn't make my mind up on this one. On paper Auks was more firepower in the backs but Cant look to have a huge advantage at the breakdown. If Ioane had started, I'd have gone Auks.

Non-contact injury early in the game - passed the ball and looked to twist his ankle or knee. Had to be assisted from the field.

No. They are all down this morning, returning "invalid data request" at my end.
I have had to switch to the SkyGo app; which I pay for legit but is such a piece of sh*t, the streams are better.

I've had a few issues every now and then lately that had me wondering if there had been some sort of concerted effort to clean them out.

Well, I reckon that will be fatal to Cant's chances of winning the thing.

From the kick that flattened Pihaki... they field it deep near the 22 and passed in field. I think it was Tuivasa Sheck that either passed or received. Flagrantly forward your honour.
