Mordaunt and Truss are quite similar in direction, their programme is auction the UK to the US then drive around in tanks. One of them heads up team gormless the other fails.
Mordaunt is doing well in Conservative Home polling. In the betting Sunak and Mordaunt are neck and neck, Truss a bit further back, the rest have fallen away.
Sunak being a billionaire (one way or another) and PM is just too much conflict of interest, that's a lot of power concentrated into one man. Truss is shameless in a similar way to Johnson. Mordaunt is the best of those three by process of elimination.
Javid has dropped out now.

When was the last time any MP, who hadn't held on of the great offices, was anointed PM ?
Just the possibility that the likes of Braverman could become PM should be the kick up the arse the UK needs to put their unwritten Constitution down on paper.
If anyone has read "The Forth Protocol", the reason why the Soviets planned on exploding a nuke, was to blame it on the US, & to do so right before a GE, so that a Soft-Left Labour leader could become PM, & then the Soviets could orchestrate a take-over of the Party by a Hard-Left candidate, & then get rid of all Nuclear weapons, & leave NATO. All without the consent of the British public, & all perfectly legal.
I'm guessing Steve Bannon has read the book !
A good billionaire could be a good pm. Not corruptible on the same level sort of thing.
However, I'd expect such a person not to use the expenses/benefits system MPs get. I have a feeling he does?

I think the party and electoral system are part of the problem.GogLais wrote: Tue Jul 12, 2022 4:27 pm Isn’t the problem partly/largely the party system? I’m not defending the corrupt ones but if you honestly believe in conservative values and want to do something about it you can only achieve that through the Conservative Party.
I would rather team end fairy tales than gormless as it at least keeps things nearer reality. Though can't see Truss being anywhere near as good at bullshitting as johnson.

Oh I get it!! Racism is acceptable if it is from the left. Makes perfect sense now.

If you are being genuine that you cannot understand the meaning of "when her parents arrived. If it were under her ideal regime, they'd have been packed back off on their banana boat to East Africa"" then you really have been leading a sheltered life.
You mentioned or brought up skin colour no one else.
Care to address that point? I like Raggs can't see your point.
You seem to want to bring skin colour into the mix. How very cultuee wars of you.
I've reported the post for racism. Lets see what the bored moderators think of it.C69 wrote: Tue Jul 12, 2022 7:51 pmYou mentioned or brought up skin colour no one else.

I can see no other interpretation to the post.
If you can provide another explanation then I'm all ears
The banana boat thing is a well known racist trope. If you don’t know that you’re either very, very sheltered or deliberately playing dumb.C69 wrote: Tue Jul 12, 2022 7:51 pmYou mentioned or brought up skin colour no one else.

I can see what you're driving at, but Patel and her family aren't African. They're Bangladeshis who moved to Uganda before coming to the UK, so the banana/black racist connection doesn't really apply.ia801310 wrote: Tue Jul 12, 2022 7:45 pmIf you are being genuine that you cannot understand the meaning of "when her parents arrived. Besides which banana boat would more likely be a reference to the craft deeply unsuitable for sea crossing, including many inflatables, that lots of migrants use in their attempts to cross the Mediterannean. The sort Patel would quite happily turn around and point back from whence they came.

I think Wilson and Heath had both been President of the Board of Trade.
Banana boats were fast ships used to ship bananas from the West Indies to the UK. The term was popularised in the UK in The Banana Boat song sung by Harry Belafonte in the 50s. The term fell into popular use as “came on the banana boat” being a way to describe immigrants who had come from the West Indies, I.e. Afro Caribbeans.sockwithaticket wrote: Tue Jul 12, 2022 8:04 pmCount me very sheltered, could you elaborate?Biffer wrote: Tue Jul 12, 2022 7:57 pmThe banana boat thing is a well known racist trope. As indicated before Banana Boat is a racist trope I am confident that you know that and are being a troll, and a racist one at that.
As I said before a kindler, gentler politics.

The defence of ‘oh but that’s a different group of not white people’ is specious, dishonest and quite frankly is the defence of a racist.

I can't see any other explanation than you are a racist. Others may be willing to interact with you, but I will no longer.
