Looking forward to seeing Zuki Tom from Glenwood. He made SA Schools this year. He was at Grey High until Glenwood poached him last year. Can play loose forward or wing. He's a freak athlete just like Jurenzo Julius.
I cannot believe the difference between junior school and high school. Junior school kids struggled to get game time and everything was so loose. We hardly see our eldest. He spends more time at school than with us. We are lucky if we get 2 hours a day. Every day there is activity after school. This week he gets home 21.30 each night as they are doing a production this week in the evening. Between that he has hockey matches. And of course school. One thing I have to say. They are building up these kids to have stamina. Milnerton insists that a contract is drawn up that forces the kids to partake in at least 2 extra curricular activities a term. 1 sports and 1 academic like theater etc. Hockey season is drawing to a close soon and cricket starts. I need to get my eldest into the nets so they can work on his action in batting. It's all high tech now. They bat you in the nets and bowl you different balls to see your action and positioning. It's filmed hawkeye style and then analyzed and then they correct. But what a difference this year has been since we overcame the Covid drama. It's lovely to be part of it. These poor kids have lost 2 years of their lives they will never get back.

Paarl Boishaai season ended three weeks ago. It's probably their u16G team against your A team
Well cricket season has started. My eldest has started a few weeks ago already. He has been getting one on one at the Montague gardens arena. Amazing setup. They have a camera set up which identifies problems with the bowling and batting. My son wasn't fond of batting, but with the few sessions he has had they have identified the issues with his timing and he is hitting it sweetly now. A huge turnaround. Would recommend to anyone who's kid is struggling. They told him to wait for the ball to hit the pitch before starting his action and this sorted his problem immediately. Every kid has a different action . Now he is working on his shot selection. On his bowling they have also helped him to get a lot more spin on the ball. His go to has been his accuracy but with the increased spin he will hopefully be in for bigger wicket hauls and greater economy. Looking forward to the games starting.
My youngest is now officially in the hard ball squad for the first time at school after 2 years of club hardball. I hated the soft ball games.

Optima under 11s
Check those colors.
My youngest ( 9 ) got into the Optima under 11s for this year's Optima T20 bash. Those colors remind me of a certain rugby team. They play 2 games today. They had a practice game on Saturday against Pennsylvania Academy and my son nervous to play under 11s asked to bat last. He only had a few balls but managed a great 4 and a single to remain unbeaten. Bowled ok. 2 dropped catches ....so I reckon he is ready for today.
His brother has been coaching him during the holidays so big pressure on him today as he goes to support his brother

A tough day . Lost badly against All Rounders Academy. But it gave the kids a chance to see who is who in the zoo. My kid told the coach he wanted to bat 11 again. I only found out later when the coach told me he wants my boy prepared to come in at 8 tomorrow. I suppose it's because he is s few years younger than the other kids that he is nervous. After a half hour break after the game they started the match against Primrose. Completely different match. We only lost 2 wickets and bowled them at half our score. My kid was completely overwhelmed by the end of the day. He was at Longstop which meant a full pitch run at the end of each over to get to his next position. Mom complied with a good footrub at home. Tomorrow 1 match for the day.
MJW bowled beautifully. Took out our top order 6 for 46. Thereafter it was dismal. My kid managed a quick 6 with a stunning 4 that just dropped short of the boundary. Caught again on the perimeter. Only one gear on this kid. Sometimes it misses the fielder....other times it goes straight to the fielder. Anyway he enjoyed his knock and came off with a big smile .
Still searching for the second win. Played MJW again this morning. Very close this time. I am sure the one umpire waa paid not to give th8s one kid out. Plumb LBW 4 times not given out. Twice on the backfoot. Plumb in front. With hawkeye he would have been out his first over. Anyway. It was close. Now we play for pride against All Rounders Academy
So proud of my youngest. 1st match of season under 10s Sunningdale vs Durbanville . We lost early wickets and were 3 down chasing 120. My son came in at 5 and a partnership developed and they retired my son . We just had a collapse and my son was sent back in as last batsman with 35 odd to still get. He finished with 7 fours and 3 singles the last one winning the match and Man of the match. He hit 5 fours in his last knock. He had absolutely no fear of smashing each loose ball.

Cheers. I put that down to his coach at the high performance center. Laurie Ward. Spent an hour yesterday correcting his stroke.OomStruisbaai wrote: ↑Sat Oct 22, 2022 12:00 pmCongrats. Hy is net 9 jaar oud. Hy gaan nog grooi. Los hom uit. Hy is sterk. Hy slaan die bal baai hard. Dis al wat jy moet weet. En hy is nie bang vir enige bouler. Hoe vinniger hoe beter Kom dit by die boundary.OomStruisbaai wrote: ↑Mon Oct 24, 2022 6:36 pmDaai laaitie van jou het n groter boep pens as ek. Hy vreet srker net junk kos.
Any way . You Boland people have your noses up your own arses.

Its more the parents....they are already playing Saturday and Monday , so the Sunday may just be a stretch too much. My boy was keen.
You were right. Decent people the Somerset West crowd. Very gracious losers. We would have ended the match earlier if we didn't restrict our boys to 12 balls a player. So were constantly having to play the boys in. My boy opened the batting and retired on 6 runs. He did however face off their 2 best bowlers. Only 1 four today.
