A more pertinent commentary on today’s society than that offered by the twat top of the last page.

You could probably do a thread on covers of this alone...

Listened to this again last night -- I like his voice but his guitar was so eloquent and expressive in this version that he hardly needed to sing.

Not a huge Sufjan Stevens fan, but I really like Illinois, so was intrigued to see that it's been adapted into a stage musical...

Mark Knopfler has released a new album, I liked the sound of the few teasers I heard...

here's the whole thing if 50 minutes of chilled out excellence is your thing

Not sure what to make of this...

Never heard of most of the tribute acts on the album tbh. I've listened to this track a few times, but it doesn't really grab me...

I've been following news of that tribute album for a few months, without feeling any connection to the artists involved, generally. I think it's simply a sign of a generation difference, really... a whole new life experience flavouring interpretations.

A fine version of a Gil Scott Heron classic.

Love it, and his Crass T shirt.

Speaking as an old fart, I do wonder where the overtly political bands are these days

That is indeed. Gil Scott, saw him twice at the Jazz Cafe best gigs I ever went to.

I love a bit of the diddly diddly trad fiddle music, I've been into it since childhood really, you're brought up on it in Scotland, country dance lessons at all the way up through school PE etc. Anyway, I went to a gig the night before last. It was a band who have taken the diddly diddly and aimed it straight at the Electronic Dance Music audience. I heartily recommend seeing Talisk live.

The accompanying video that was shown at Sumud (a Palestinian benefit gig) at Union Chapel a few weeks ago was gutwrenching, I cried all the way through it.

Can't find it online anywhere.

Brilliant tribute to John Peel (and thereby the Beeb):
