Because Sky are c**ts. Basically there is an app for mobile devices and SkyGo program for computers. Go is a piece of sh*t that takes forever to load, runs on the unsafe Microsoft Silverlight technology
and has no capability to use the red button.

basically I have started watching the shield (which I highly recommend(cheers Brazil)) and I want to watch it in the summerhouse whilst riding my spinning bike. I was hoping to plug my laptop into the TV over there and watch whilst exercising. Two birds one stone...

Get a tablet and use that instead, far easier

You can do that but will have to install SkyGo (see link above). It will ask for your login details for your Sky account so have them ready. You'll need a display port cable to connect your laptop to the TV. Even if your TV supports casting, Go is so flaky you'll end up with broken pictures. WARNING: you'd better have a fast wireless connection too because Go is pretty flaky even on 100Mb connections.

Anyone have problems with the Go app not seeing the Sky q box? After months of trying to get it working my app finally saw the box the other day but only briefly and now doesn't see it again.

I have it wired so not using the Sky mesh and am using a Tp link mesh. Everything on same network but no luck.

I tried TP Link... stronger strength, but kept dropping out. Not seeing Sky Q Box. Removed TP Link and it could see Sky Q Box again...

Yeah, I think it's an issue with TP but the fact it saw it, if only briefly, makes me think there's some configuration that will work. I don't really need it, would just be nice to have at times.

I think this is another of those "because Sky are c**ts" things. I can't get that function to work either and IIRC, it's because it won't. You have to have
SkyGo Extra (extra cost)

https://www.sky.com/help/articles/what-is-sky-go-extra

which is the same shit program but only comes available to multi-room subscribers but does allow you to program record on Q from your device.

My problem is more with the summerhouse, how does one reach the cobwebs in the corner, is there an app?

I have a Sky story,

in 2 years they've bumped my subscription by over 33%. So I was end of contract last month, called up and got down from £104 pm to £79.50. happy with that.

6 days into new 18 month contract get an email telling my package is going up by £5 pm!!! Fuck that!

and I don't even use the Sky Go/Sky Q app!

My research suggests it's partly a Tp problem but also something to do with Sky so happy to keep kicking Sky! Apparently the old Sky Q app was fine but they dropped it for some reason.

Result, so not happy with them doing this, so I phone up just now and said that I'd like to cancel, not that I don't like their services, been a customer for 16 years, but it's just the principle of it. I expect the price I was quoted to at least be valid for the first 12 months...

Their retentions team are awesome, they totally agreed with me, had a look at my account and instead on paying £84.50 or the original £79.50. I'm now down to £68.50 for the next 18 months... Not bad considering it was £104 in January...

Great outcome for you but they rely on the greater population just accepting it which is just wrong IMO.

Think I've figured out my problem. Despite being wired to a device in my mesh my Sky Q is only 'connected' to a different device in the mesh and if I'm connected to that device, I can connect to the box via Sky Go but if I'm connected to the device that's actually wired to the box, I can't.

They have been great to me I rang up this evening saying my Q box wasn't working and I am getting a new one tomorrow.

My Sky remote used to turn my TV on as well as the sky box any idea why that would have stopped? need two remotes now...

Have you changed TV? Or have you mixed up remotes?

Setting up the remote is simple. Go to settings - setup - remote control.

New sky box arrived today - same problem. In my defence yesterday I told the sky tech people I thought it might be the soundbox as the Sky Q is routed through that. They told me there was no way it could be that. Anyhoo eventually I diagnosed the problem myself, the cleaners had knocked the power cable out of the back of the sound box     which is a tad embarrassing.

the guy also showed me how to do both with the sky remote  only pisser is we have lost all the recorded stuff on the old Q box

Soundbox is perfectly normal term for something that is also called a soundbase i.e. not a soundbar. Soundbars are thin and so have limitations when it comes to bass.
