From a month after the last test in 2017... AWJ doesn't even make the list.
How many would even be likely to be selected now? 5?Margin__Walker wrote: Wed Mar 10, 2021 1:47 pm From a month after the last test in 2017... AWJ doesn't even make the list.

As a potential captain? Definitely a lot of them would tour, but not many seem appropriate to perhaps wear the arm band.Openside wrote: Wed Mar 10, 2021 2:26 pmnah I reckon 12 minimumTorquemada 1420 wrote: Wed Mar 10, 2021 2:00 pmHow many would even be likely to be selected now? 5?Margin__Walker wrote: Wed Mar 10, 2021 1:47 pm From a month after the last test in 2017... Now that would be funny.
I read Torqs comment as only 5 from that list would even make the tour let alone be Captain...sockwithaticket wrote: Wed Mar 10, 2021 2:43 pmAs a potential captain? That should probably be the first cab off the rank. Then you can all pull yourselves off at the prospect of captain.
Don't put the horse before the cart gentleman.
One would have thought after the last year that the Northerners wouldn't get ahead of themselves but nothing changes does it.
Awful humans......
He's not even a shoe in for selection. Gatland is not known for his like of players with variable reliability. And no-one is making Russel captain. Not even of the local park side.

Stuart Hogg also missing from the list. Not suggesting people would want him as captain but his is captaining Scotland (well in my opinion) and would have a better chance than most Scots on that list even back then.Margin__Walker wrote: Wed Mar 10, 2021 1:47 pm From a month after the last test in 2017... There are worse calls than Stuart Hogg.Big D wrote: Thu Mar 11, 2021 9:28 amStuart Hogg also missing from the list. Yes. It looks incomplete based on 4 years ago.
Yeah my point was more compared to some of the names on there like Price and the McGraths. Given he was always likely to tour I'd have expected to see Hogg as an outsider @75/1 or 100/1 or something like that.JM2K6 wrote: Thu Mar 11, 2021 12:54 pm I can't imagine many people were suggesting Hogg as a potential Lions captain after that tour, given he was still a hothead, was invalided out of the tour without playing a Test, and wasn't captaining Scotland until last year. Plus, y'know, people rightly seeing that the Scots rarely get a fair shake of it for the Lions anyway.
Mind you, there's some funny fucking names in there as it is. Russell? George? Stander?
I am quietly fully on that bandwagon. He is still seen as the silly wee laddie who did a couple of stupid things (still does the odd thing) but at 28/29 with 10 seasons of international rugby in him he has matured into a far more solid player and leader. He is too attacking in his decisions for some but I am very happy with the way he captains Scotland.
I mean Luke McGrath? Leinster's stand in captain when all the internationals are away. Sure, he might have looked like being a bit further along in his career than he is but Murray was a young enough Lions starter (and one of the favourites on the list, somehow!). James Ryan at least had some logic to it but still, you'd have had loads ahead of those two.Margin__Walker wrote: Thu Mar 11, 2021 2:30 pm Agree. Hogg wouldn't have been very high on the list, but you would expect him to have been priced, given he was very likely to be a fixture in the next tour party.
