For whatever reason I found myself looking up chanterelles in Wikipedia. Being an ignorant provincial, I’ve never tried them.
Are they as toothsome as claimed by some?

Wonderful mushroom with almost a "fruity" flavour which stay nicely firm when cooked
Never come across any in the wild though they are fairly widespread across Europe. Not cheaap if bought at a market but worth it!

Borough Market is especially bad, it's all nice stuff and all, but I don't really have thirty quid to spend on a macadamia, pecorino and truffle fusion twist surprise.
A pork pie and packet of crisps will do for me.
