3 charges weren’t there.

2 of degrees of murder. And 1 of manslaughter.

He’s as guilty as a puppy next to a pile of poo. Although just for the craic and the total and utter meltdown that would happen, a not guilty verdict would liven the day up.

I couldn’t see on what basis they could consider a not guilty verdict to be honest. It was blatant and there’s no obvious justifiable circumstances where that length of kneeling would have been warranted.

The jury have more or less complete independence in terms of whether they feel the case is proven.

If precedent was an issue the judge would have already thrown out the charges

I imagine because he's a cop, they'll put him in a Federal supermax; & he'll spend 23 hours a day in his 6x8 ft box & then he'll have 1 glorious hour of exercise .... alone

He'll rot there for decades; while his appeals go no where.

He didn’t commit a federal crime. He’ll go into protective custody in a regular prison. Medium security probably.

It is a unique case in some ways though. A split second before firing a gun and blowing someone's head off is much more easily explained away than choking someone out for 9 minutes. Plenty of people want to support the police, and will take the opportunity to if you can reasonably give a 'you weren't there, you don't know the stress' style defence.

Didn't the district prosecutor originally decide there wasn't a case to prosecute?

Ignoring appeals, he'll only be sentenced for the most serious of the crimes, and state guidelines for sentencing mean he should get the low end of the tariff. so he gets 12.5 years, and will serve less than half of that with parole

Unlikely as whilst that is the minimum tariff, the judge will consider other aggravating factors like the fact there was a child witnessing this, the position of power the cop had which was abused and a few other things, i tihnk he will get closer to 20 years.

He chose the wrong time to play his "get out of jail free card". An accumulation of offences meant someone was taking a team card in order to appease the public. He is guilty as f**k but don't think the right verdict was reached as a consequence of justice. This was political.

Expect normal service to resume.

The statements from American politicians prior to his sentencing were very worrying. Serious grounds for a mistrial. If only people in 2021 could keep their mouths shut instead of thinking the whole world wants to know their point of view. Stick to protocol.
