Not lies. Just amusing anecdotes. Got a few. Hope to hear a new one.

My destroyer was in the "green paint" division.

On sensing a submarine through the ASDIC, we used to spread a large film of green paint on the sea surface and turn all the engines off.

The submarine, thinking the enemy had gone away, began to surface to recharge its batteries.

Up came the periscope which was then covered in a film of green paint.

Thinking it had not yet reached the surface, the submarine kept on rising.

We used to wait until it was 400 feet in the air, then shoot it down with our anti-aircraft guns.

Went to see a friend with our precocious granddaughter. He made up some story up about their cat being 25 years old. When challenged he said he was only joking, to which granddaughter replied "No, you're lying".

I was in Antarctica. It was very, very cold. Shivering, I said I'd never been in conditions like that.

That's nothing, said a fellow explorer. When I went to the Arctic it was so cold, when we spoke, words came out of our mouths in pieces of ice. We had to fry them to hear what we were talking about.
