Round robin all teams play each other. But then they slap on an extra 3 games.
Then it’s a quarter final knockout.
Talk about managing to make the worst of arguably the best format Supe ever had (when it was 12 teams).
Every team plays each other once, fair (and the enjoyment of finding out who plays who at home). However they slap 3 extra games on, creating an ugly unbalanced comp once again!
Then to have it as a quarter finals. So what only 4 miss out. I remember the excitement of trying to stay in the top 4, usually one nailed on with the next 3 top form teams vying to make it.
Here we will have at the conclusion of the round Robin’s probably 6 teams safely through and only a few lower end teams battling it out to secure a spot. Talk about devaluing the round robin. Possibly with the 3 final extra games at the end so the Aussies can claim their participation points.
Not impressed with how they’ve managed to screw this up if I’ve read it right.
Happy to hear others more positive outlook on this.
