The premier big wave surfing events. You miss it its gone. But whilst its happening its a huge adrenaline rush. All the popular vlogging surfers taking part. Winter swells feed these monsters.
2 Saffer boys taking part
Matt Bromley and Grant Baker....Baker had a bad experience previously so Jaws is going to be a test for him. Matt has released a new movie called " over the edge " and has become a father. One of the most laid back surfers around. Kom boytjie.

Twiggy Baker is a mad man. Imagine doing that at age 48. Most of these guys have had near death experiences. I've hiked to Sentinel Peak which overlooks the Dungeons break. It looks crazy.

Matt at Jaws last year...first time.
Its going to be great to watch our Saffer boys at the events
A clip from his new movie " over the edge ".....check that laid back style at a large Nias
Remember these guys are on call......I don't recall Matt at Nazare before. When a decent swell approaches they all get the call up and arrive at the destination to take part in the competition....You can follow forecasts for the 2 venues or webcams.
Jaws is around 14 foot currently which is too small and its getting smaller in the next week so don't expect much.
Jaws is onfire between 30 and 80 foot.......
Nazare is a 100 foot wave

The Red Bull Big Wave Africa is a surfing competition held annually in Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa. The event is held at "Dungeons", just east of The Sentinel, a peak in Hout Bay, Cape Town. ... The six finalists were drawn from the United States, Hawaii, Brazil, and South Africa for a first prize of R100 000.

Dungeons is a hit and miss wave that needs a huge swell to work. Its a barrel section on takeoff and then tapers away to nothing.
Its a swell hitting a huge submerged rock. It hasn't been popular on the big wave circuit.

Anytime from now to March
A lot of the surfers are currently at Nazare in Portugal.
Grant Baker is there and was out yesterday
I think they expect the swell there first because Jaws is going flat.
This is just insane....imagine being the parents. Would you allow it
Holy shit...............................no I wouldn't
Meh, he’s wearing a suit with flotation canisters in it and is being tracked by a couple of 1500cc jet ski all day long.
The average 16 year old (like me many years ago) has to paddle out into 12-15 four surf on almost deserted outer reefs, with maybe 1 other buddy also on a surfboard and survive on your own.
Those waves are huge, but tow-in surfing is really cheating.

"Cheating" or not it takes balls of steel to ride one of those monsters

Oh for sure. Getting one of those on the head, followed by 3 more is unpleasant.

All these people flocking to the beaches, creating Covid hot spots. Let's hope our government do the responsible thing.

Vokof.....the gap between people in the open windy air is far far more than in any other recreational area. You just don't like your bleached white hairy legs to get sun

Could be on Sunday and Monday. Check that thick black spot in the middle of the system.
Unfortunately Matt Bromley can't get there because of the new variant. Not sure if Twiggy is around. Boys will be booking flights now and sorting out sponsors products and boards.
