Another day; another case of Cops shooting innocence civilians; & seeking to avoid any responsibility.
Summary:
Two stupid kids decide to trade shots outside a High School football game; & scare people; but don't actually manage to hit anyone .....
.... but then; some cops in the area; wade in, & decide that adding more bullets to this shitshow, is the best thing; & while the teenagers didn't manage to hit anyone; the cops do get some hits in; but obviously; they didn't hit the shooters; they instead manage to kill an innocent girl, & injure her sister, & two others.
So what do the Cop do ?
Did they put the wild west cops on suspension ?; & start the disciplinary functions to take a couple of cops who decide that firing bullets into crowd of 99% innocent civilians; isn't an acceptable response ? ..... did they fuck !
No; they charged the two dickhead teenagers with the murder of the kid;
that the Cops killed.
What a fucking disgrace of a Country.

Can we take a second to examine this situation first? Fucked. Up. Country.

There certainly are some weird goings-on over there. Just recently a boy in a Texas school shot 4 people (including a teacher) and was released almost straight away on bail, after which his family threw him a party which was livestreamed on Facebook. Also, last month gang members were shooting each other in Chicago (at least one person died) and the incident was caught on security video. The prosecutors chose not to prosecute anyone as they basically thought it was a fair fight.

It's good to see life getting back to normal in the US.
The suspect in a Michigan school shooting will face charges of terrorism and first-degree murder following a rampage that left four students dead and seven injured.
Prosecutors on Wednesday charged Oxford High School student Ethan Crumbley, 15, as an adult.
He has pleaded not guilty. Police are yet to identify a motive in the attack.
The victims were named as Tate Myre, 16, Madisyn Baldwin, 17, Hana St Juliana, 14, and Justin Shilling, 17.
Announcing the charges on Wednesday, Oakland County prosecutor Karen McDonald said her office had "a mountain of digital evidence" to show the suspect had planned the attack "well before the incident".
One such instance is a video of the suspect the night before the shooting, in which he discusses killing students.
"This isn't even a close call," she said. "This was not an impulsive act."
She added that it was "absolutely premeditated".
...
The teenager has refused to speak with investigators on the instructions of his family.
The sheriff stressed that the teenager had never been on the radar of law enforcement or the school. He also added there was no evidence the suspect had been bullied by his peers.
"There is nothing that he could have faced that would warrant senseless, absolutely brutal violence on other kids," said Mr Bouchard.
He noted that the suspect's parents had been called to the school hours before the shooting "for behaviour in the classroom that was concerning".
Investigators have found the suspect loaded his firearm - purchased by his father on Friday - in the bathroom and then walked through the hallway firing more than 30 shots from the weapon.
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-59498167
If it 's right to charge this murdering scum as an adult; then it's equally right to charge his father as an accessory before the fact; & throw the fucker in prison.

The US is still a young country, it's not yet 250 years old and it was founded on a will to be free of religious persecution and overbearing state intervention on individuals' lives. We'll ignore the genocide and subjugation of the indigenous peoples and the slavery for now, oh and the intervention on individuals' lives when it conflicts with something they read in an ancient text, despite the separation of church and state, but anyway...
Individualism and self interest is still very much celebrated and encouraged in the US, it's very different to much of Europe and it's difficult for one to understand the other.
This individualism has been exploited by the Right and particularly those who profit from selling guns, there is just no way anything will change in the US until there is a shift towards common good and responsibilities over individual "rights".
Some of the Wild West heroes of Westerns only died in the 1900s, others in the late 1800s, the US isn't that far removed from that time.

Not to mention mob films and other anti-hero culture that followed after the hey-day of their 'white hat vs black hats / Indians' obsession.
I wish I could remember the interview/author, but the Cracked podcast had an author on once who thought immigrants to North America self sorted over many decades based on what they wanted from their livelihood / government. He admitted it'd be impossible to study, but it resonated with me. Canada has its fair share of rednecks who love everything Deep South, though it's probably more from being blasted by US culture up here and having (often misguided) perceptions that the gov't is screwing them. I'm sure the US has a big chunk of lefties who truly would prefer more of a big gov't, socialized society but I imagine most Dems fit somewhere in the middle.

Arizona cop shoots a 61 year old man 9 times in the back. The man was in a motorized wheelchair.
“
Do not go into the store, sir,” an officer is heard telling Richards, who appears to ignore the warning. Taylor is then heard saying, “Stop now, you need to ... ” before Remington begins shooting at Richards in the back and side at close range, based on what’s shown on the video. Lowe’s security footage shows that a store employee was also near the Lowe’s entrance, ahead of Richards, and could have been struck by one of Remington’s bullets.
In the graphic footage, Richards then slumps over and falls out of his chair. Remington is then seen rushing toward him, and he handcuffs the man as he’s crumpled on the ground instead of trying to administer lifesaving aid. Richards was pronounced dead soon afterward
Remington’s attorney Mike Storie, who represents officers in the police union, told The Arizona Republic that his client “had no non-lethal options” despite Remington having a Taser and the ability to turn off Richards’ wheelchair.
“He did have a Taser, but in his mind, he couldn’t use it because he didn’t feel he had the proper spread to deploy it, with the wheelchair between him Richards,” Storie told the Republic, not including the fact that the wheelchair between Remington and Richards did not stop the officer from shooting the man nine times

Sort of, they wanted to be free of the persecution they'd suffered, but they also in turn wanted to persecute others who didn't worship as they did. They wanted to have their own version of the persecution game to control more than to actually remove persecution.

Still a hundred years older than both Italy and Germany, and older than Belgium and the Netherlands.
It is a fair point that individualism and self interest is celebrated in the US in a way it is not here today. But there was once much less of a difference, bearing in mind that those who founded the US were essentially British. In the timescales we are talking about, the UK changed what were once core values in the UK far more than the US did to theirs.
As an example, the kind of brutal, unregulated capitalism that drove the industrial revolution and firmly believed that the market / individuals were better placed to respond to any situation than the Govt. resulted in the horrors of that time. Lessons were learned and laws were introduced (usually due to the campaigning of strong individuals) that restricted individual freedoms for the greater good.
One of the more bizarre things is that the right to bear arms went over to the US from the UK as the right of the individual to bear arms was enshrined in UK law. Specific laws had to be introduced after the Jacobite risings to deprive Highlanders of these rights. It was only when lawlessness was getting out of hand after the Napoleonic Wars in the 1800s with returned soldiers bring back and using weapons criminally that the first restrictions were imposed.

Well yes, but the difference there is that in Europe borders were shifting and Empires were waning, in the US immigrants from across the Ocean were taking control of a continent and fashioning it in their own image.

The NRA used to be pro-gun control, in fact they helped write the laws that way, it's only really since the 70s that they became the bastion of the gun lobby

The parents of a suspect in deadly shooting at a Michigan high school are facing charges of their own.
Prosecutors in Oakland County have charged James and Jennifer Crumbley with involuntary manslaughter, alleging several negligent actions they took.
Authorities say Ethan Crumbley used his father's handgun during a rampage in Oxford, about 35 miles (60 km) north of Detroit, this week.
He has pleaded not guilty on multiple charges including terrorism.
Four people were killed and seven were injured in the shooting on Tuesday.
The victims have been named as Tate Myre, 16, Madisyn Baldwin, 17, Hana St Juliana, 14, and Justin Shilling, 17.
On Friday, Oakland County lead prosecutor Karen McDonald acknowledged that charging parents in a child's alleged crime was unusual, but the facts of the case were "egregious".
According to her office's investigation, the boy was with his father last Friday when Mr Crumbley bought the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting.
Investigators said that Mr and Mrs Crumbley had been contacted over their son's concerning behaviour, including several drawings of guns and bloodied people alongside captions like "the thoughts won't stop" and "blood everywhere".
On one occasion, a teacher found the teenager searching the word "ammunition" on his cell phone during class. School personnel reportedly were unable to reach his parents, but in a text exchange with his mother later, she said: "LOL I'm not mad at you. You have to learn not to get caught."
Ms McDonald said the charges are meant to hold the Crumbleys accountable as well as to send a message about responsible gun ownership.
"The notion that a parent could read those words and also know that their son had access to a deadly weapon that they gave him is unconscionable, and it's criminal," she said.

Fucking hell. While teaching I dealt with my share of useless parents who couldn't have cared less about the behaviour of their kids, but this really is something else entirely. He could only have been a more obvious risk if he'd literally written "I'm going to shoot up the school" on his forehead.

It's an "I LOVE GUNS" weapon. That's fine, but just abandon the pretense that it's for self defence/home defence and have those things where they belong - a dedicated shooting range where people rock up just to get a kick out of firing military grade kit. It has no business just being generally accessible to civillians.

Maybe because the media barely cares when it happens to a white person.
