6 of the 7 charges
Maxwell has been found guilty on five of six counts - including the most serious charge, that of sex trafficking of a minor.Kawazaki wrote: Wed Dec 29, 2021 10:29 pm Is the one she was found not guilty of the 'biggie' or has she been found guilty of something that will put her away for a long time?
Apparently “sex trafficking of a minor” was the biggie that can carry 40 yearsKawazaki wrote: Wed Dec 29, 2021 10:29 pm Is the one she was found not guilty of the 'biggie' or has she been found guilty of something that will put her away for a long time?
Count 1: Conspiracy to entice a minor to travel to engage in illegal sex acts - maximum sentence of five years
Count 3: Conspiracy to transport a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity - maximum sentence of five years
Count 4: Transporting a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity - maximum sentence of 10 years
Count 5: Conspiracy to commit sex trafficking of minors - maximum sentence of five years
Count 6: Sex trafficking of minors - maximum sentence of 40 years
She was found not guilty of the sixth, for enticing a minor to travel to engage in illegal sex acts.
Me too, but I hope she squeals on all her co-conspirators before she decomposes completely.
Wonder if they will bother prosecute any of the blokes who carried out the 'criminal sexual activity' that she was convicted for enabling.Grandpa wrote: Wed Dec 29, 2021 10:47 pm
Strange... as the charges seem interlinked... I guess there was lack of evidence of enticement... even though she was guilty of conspiracy to entice... does that mean she got someone else to do it?
She said nothing pre-trial to try to get a reduced sentence. Why would she squeal now? She’s still loyal to Epstein, the horrible bitch.
The US is a strange place ... I wonder if they will offer her a deal to reduce her sentence if she provides evidence about others involved in the sex crimes? Until now she might have thought she was going to get off, she might still think her appeal will be successful. However once it is clear to her she is destined to rot in jail forever then she might change her stance and look for a deal so she at least has a chance of being free before she dies? There must be some very sweaty old men at the moment!Sandstorm wrote: Thu Dec 30, 2021 9:48 amShe said nothing pre-trial to try to get a reduced sentence. Why would she squeal now? I suspect the maga king is one of them though he will likely evade charges due to reduced mental capacity if they ever come.Ymx wrote: Thu Dec 30, 2021 10:42 amI shouldn’t butdpedin wrote: Thu Dec 30, 2021 10:06 amThe US is a strange place ... Taking to Twitter, Piers took a swipe at the Duke of York, mocking his excuse in view of his 7.9 million followers.
"Will vile sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell now sing like a canary to avoid spending the rest of her life in prison?" he wondered.
"If she does, there could be a lot of rich, powerful & famous people sweating tonight... and not sweating."
To be honest, I’m not sure The Don is caught up in this. He was pretty unequivocal about what he thought of Epstein even before all this blew up.petej wrote: Thu Dec 30, 2021 10:57 amI suspect the maga king is one of them though he will likely evade charges due to reduced mental capacity if they ever come.Ymx wrote: Thu Dec 30, 2021 10:42 amI shouldn’t butdpedin wrote: Thu Dec 30, 2021 10:06 am

+1. Obviously they had similar social circles what with them both being wealthy New Yorkers with places in Palm Beach. However, its my understanding that Trump caught wind of what a wrong un Epstein was years ago and gave him a wide berth after that. The actual anecdote is I believe Epstein was trying to groom one of Trumps mates teenage daughters at a country club in Palm Beach.Slick wrote: Thu Dec 30, 2021 11:21 amTo be honest, I’m not sure The Don is caught up in this. He's also on record, & numerous people have collaborated; as having perved over teenagers on various states of undress; when he hosted the Miss Teen USA, at his resorts !Slick wrote: Thu Dec 30, 2021 11:21 amTo be honest, I’m not sure The Don is caught up in this. Corroborated surely, unless you are suggesting there were numerous people perving over the teenagers with him (not impossible I grant you).fishfoodie wrote: Thu Dec 30, 2021 4:52 pmHe's also on record, & numerous people have collaborated; as having perved over teenagers on various states of undress; when he hosted the Miss Teen USA, at his resorts !Slick wrote: Thu Dec 30, 2021 11:21 amTo be honest, I’m not sure The Don is caught up in this. The BBC have been shocking on this.I like neeps wrote: Thu Dec 30, 2021 11:33 am
Not surprised the BBC messed up on this one. Must be getting quite hard to find people to stick up for Prince Andrew so Epstein's former lawyer who got him his sweetheart deal and someone facing the same accusations as Andy is a good a bet as any.
Earlier on, I'm assuming Woman's Hour, they had quite a lengthy interview with someone who's recently put out a book detailing her encounters with Maxwell and Epstein. And that too the BBC allowed to stand without hearing from say Maxwell's family or lawyers as a counterpoint.Biffer wrote: Fri Dec 31, 2021 9:22 am
The BBC have been shocking on this.
Invited Epsteins lawyer on to discuss the case, no declaration of interest, no opposing view
Invited Maxwelks brother on to vouch for her, again unopposed
Multiple sympathetic articles online
It's a disgrace
Societal deference to the wealthy and privileged. ‘Our masters and betters’.Kawazaki wrote: Fri Dec 31, 2021 12:48 pm I'm not up with the latest conspiracy theories. Can any of you explain why the BBC would be trying to downplay/reframe the charges against Maxwell and/or what Epstein did?
Ta.
You tend to hear more from the victims and victims relatives/friends and little from the guilty. This is unusual. We've not heard much from Wayne couzens friends and colleagues.Rhubarb & Custard wrote: Fri Dec 31, 2021 12:54 pmEarlier on, I'm assuming Woman's Hour, they had quite a lengthy interview with someone who's recently put out a book detailing her encounters with Maxwell and Epstein. We should be able to allow that not every point made needs to have an opposing view presented in all instances, and frankly even if you had an opposing view you might only have two incorrect/biased contributions.

I suspect this is the BBC’s editors (and lawyers) being careful to distinguish between the four women involved in the trial, who can be called victims because their allegations have now been proved in the courts, and the other 100 or so women whose accusations about Epstein haven’t been tested in the courts, and so are still referred to as ‘accusers’.Insane_Homer wrote: Fri Dec 31, 2021 9:28 am https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-59736227

BBC Narrative continues, "accuser(s)" should read "victim(s)"
Spectator is full fluff piece.
