What a lovely chap.
Presumably, when the victim herself is posting stuff up on social media, it makes any pretense of anonymity a bit absurd ?Insane_Homer wrote: Sun Jan 30, 2022 7:05 pm seems like a keeper (sic)

Largely due to her naming in the posts I suspect.Insane_Homer wrote: Sun Jan 30, 2022 7:05 pm seems like a keeper (sic)

The audio file is pretty terrible as well. I think there's two sides to it. I think a lot of 'normal' people just nope out of participating in social media like Twitter because it's so toxic, which means the discourse might not be representative. However, it also does seem to embolden some people that you think are fairly normal in real life. There's a lad I went to school with who was always quite mild-mannered but on social media is a frothing UKIP anti-immigrant type with (no joke) a fondness for German military uniforms from the WW2 era.Kawazaki wrote: Mon Jan 31, 2022 7:10 amSlick wrote: Sun Jan 30, 2022 8:06 pm I made the mistake of wandering on to Twitter. Nah, that's just Twitter.
The vast majority of people* in the UK are generally ok, decent people who know the difference between right and wrong regardless of how they vote, where they live, if they believe in a God, colour etc etc. Social media, particularly Twitter, has actually managed to regress societal development though.
* apart from the Welsh obviously.
Quite!!
I don't get that though. Surely if the club had an inkling of this sort of behaviour they would want to offload him at the nearest opportunity - realise some cash and get a potentially toxic asset off their books. But they gave him a 5 year contract last year!!!The sun god wrote: Mon Jan 31, 2022 12:17 pm He appears to be a pretty vile individual and apparently, he has been on the radar previously.
His career at MU is FUBAR in any case.

I couldn't believe that one. They've had a swathe of resignations and Val McDermid, who must have supported them with a fair whack of cash over the years, is disowning them, and they are still trying to brazen it out.Slick wrote: Wed Feb 02, 2022 11:01 am The Raith Rovers saga this week is quite unsavoury as well and seems to have spectacularly backfired on the club.
Club statement, which couldn't really be much more cloth earedeldanielfire wrote: Wed Feb 02, 2022 11:23 amIs it a case that the club wasn't aware or just didn't care?
While acknowledging the gravity of what happened ten years ago, as a club we fully support and encourage rehabilitation, and many factors influenced our signing,” it said, adding: “The management team is familiar with David’s career and background and — in particular — his footballing ability. That is our foremost consideration, and we believe that he will strengthen the playing squad.”
I'd say you're right - West Ham had Dimitri Payet and always wondered why he wasn't at Real or similar - he's that level of talent.Hal Jordan wrote: Wed Feb 02, 2022 1:50 pm I suspect Southgate knew that there was something in the background, I would expect that there is an awful lot that happens behind the scenes that we never know about which explains certain questions, e.g. why does player X at smaller club Y not sign for bigger clubs when your talent merits it? Because their backstage behaviour is such that it can be tolerated at the smaller club when weighed against what they bring to the team, but it's not worth the hassle for the big clubs.
This can also work where the talent is colossal, and the big club will overlook it.
On the Raith front, the women's team have gone in two footed. They're having new shirts printed without the club crest, and seeking permission to change their name and play elsewhere.

I'm not convinced that corrupt, thieving Derby would not have won their case if they had really dismissed Keogh for misconduct. IIRC, the 2 other players involved were both drink driving and fled the scene of the accident. They were both convicted by the courts BUT crucially, Derby did not dismiss them. In doing that, they signalled for all to see that Keogh's dismissal was a matter of convenience because his injury meant he was unlikely to play again: even though I think he did. The thing I never understood about that case was why Derby's player insurance didn't cover them: in which case they had no need to try and dump Keogh to save money.inactionman wrote: Wed Feb 02, 2022 11:57 am There are issues around sacking footballers for certain behaviours, Derby sacked Richard Keogh for gross misconduct after he was injured in a car crash despite only being a passenger (think they noted he wasn't wearing a seatbelt which is a contributor to the serious knee injury he sustained) but he sued and Derby were found against, and had to stump up the remainder of his contract.
It is interesting that one.Slick wrote: Wed Feb 02, 2022 11:01 am The Raith Rovers saga this week is quite unsavoury as well and seems to have spectacularly backfired on the club.
I think a national news story with audio of a high profile footballer released two days early made it a bigger story than it may have been. Also Val McDermid is a significant individual and backer of Raith so would have had a large audience to make a point to I'm not sure any Clyde fan would have?Big D wrote: Wed Feb 02, 2022 4:27 pmIt is interesting that one.Slick wrote: Wed Feb 02, 2022 11:01 am The Raith Rovers saga this week is quite unsavoury as well and seems to have spectacularly backfired on the club.
I think he is a scumbag and shouldn't be playing football, haven't changed my view since he signed for Clyde.
But it it weird the condemnation from the government now compared to when he signed for Clyde 5 years ago. Where was the outcry back then?
Put Di Canio in that bracket there, what with his love of Mussolini and the salutes at Lazio.inactionman wrote: Wed Feb 02, 2022 2:06 pmI'd say you're right - West Ham had Dimitri Payet and always wondered why he wasn't at Real or similar - he's that level of talent.Hal Jordan wrote: Wed Feb 02, 2022 1:50 pm I suspect Southgate knew that there was something in the background, I would expect that there is an awful lot that happens behind the scenes that we never know about which explains certain questions, e.g. why does player X at smaller club Y not sign for bigger clubs when your talent merits it? Raith Rovers surely have to backtrack here, don't they? It's disastrous in so many ways.

Not sure how they can back track. They paid 100k for him and he has a multi year contract that they signed knowing his past.inactionman wrote: Wed Feb 02, 2022 2:06 pmI'd say you're right - West Ham had Dimitri Payet and always wondered why he wasn't at Real or similar - he's that level of talent.Hal Jordan wrote: Wed Feb 02, 2022 1:50 pm I suspect Southgate knew that there was something in the background, I would expect that there is an awful lot that happens behind the scenes that we never know about which explains certain questions, e.g. why does player X at smaller club Y not sign for bigger clubs when your talent merits it? If it's risking the women's team leaving and major sponsors going, I'd wonder if it's worth just paying out his contract. As in most things, it'll come down to money - whether the loss of sponsorship hurts them harder than waving away 6 figures in fees and wage. Purely pragmatically, there's always the feeling that things will quieten down once the initial outrage subsides, but it's some fierce level of outrage.Big D wrote: Wed Feb 02, 2022 5:26 pmNot sure how they can back track. Raith Rovers’ women’s team are cutting ties with the club as the backlash against the signing of David Goodwillie intensified.
After withdrawing her shirt sponsorship of the club, the bestselling crime novelist Val McDermid confirmed on Wednesday that she would fund new shirts for the women’s side, which will be printed without the Raith Rovers crest, as the team arrange to play their next fixture this Sunday away from Stark’s Park, at another ground in the town.
