Started out in East Asia, then the Gulf, which gave me clarity that it actually had to be Africa but messed up after getting REALLY close with my second last turn (only 1000km away)

Shocking lack of topographical knowledge.

Yeah my knowledge of the shape and precise location of a lot of African countries is pretty poor - Guessing Gabon really didn't help me that much, but it telling me it was north east meant I knew the general area of Africa at least. Knew it wasn't Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Senegal etc and just lucked out on my 5th go

Didn't recognise the shape of the country itself, but I knew that tail bit sticking into it was The DRC. Knew Zambia, Zimbabwe and Mozambique were the best candidates and Zambia was the leading one. My geography knowledge of Africa is a smidgen better than I thought.

Well I thought The DRC's tail was to give it access to the Zambezi, and figured that as Zambia was upriver to Zimbabwe that that was the best guess. While I was right with my guess, the Zambezi is nowhere near there, so you know, back to the dunce's corner for me.
