I'd hope fans world boycott the South Africa matches if true.
It would destroy the tournament.
Only the next 3 years, apparently.
Good riddance, we don't need negative nancies and fair weather fans in our new comp.Slick wrote: Thu Feb 17, 2022 7:18 amOnly the next 3 years, apparently.
I genuinely think that would be it for me and rugby, at least pro rugby. As a Scotland supporter what's the point in being in a tournament we realistically will never win. I'm not that interested in pro club rugby, not that interested in Autumn internationals or summer tours, and not really that interested in the World Cup, but the 6N is, and always has been, a huge part of my life. Fuck them all.

I believe that may be the famed South African humour at work. Humour and South African in the same sentence, now that is a first.sockwithaticket wrote: Thu Feb 17, 2022 8:51 amI believe that may be the famed South African humour at work. Very badly.. along with Australia and Argentina. They'd be forced into embracing Japan to survive... and while it may work economically, the rugby will be as loose as a scared goose...

Yeah. Underneath the headline of the report I read it decided to mention the fact that the 6N pretty much said no 3 months ago and reiterated that stance at the start of the 6NPaddington Bear wrote: Thu Feb 17, 2022 9:01 am Sad but probably inevitable that it would get floated at some point, money talks. Would say that there's a long way from this to it being implemented - see the Super League in football.

I'd be quite happy for England to go off and form a league with those big boys and leave the rest of us to enjoy some quality weekends.inactionman wrote: Thu Feb 17, 2022 3:03 pmLet's not be too hasty, it might be Wales.Tichtheid wrote: Thu Feb 17, 2022 3:02 pm If it's all about the money, how long until the money starts whispering, "Why don't we have New Zealand in this competition? Curious reply. I can only assume you've been stung by the £6.50 pints at HQ?Slick wrote: Thu Feb 17, 2022 3:10 pmI'd be quite happy for England to go off and form a league with those big boys and leave the rest of us to enjoy some quality weekends.inactionman wrote: Thu Feb 17, 2022 3:03 pmLet's not be too hasty, it might be Wales.Tichtheid wrote: Thu Feb 17, 2022 3:02 pm If it's all about the money, how long until the money starts whispering, "Why don't we have New Zealand in this competition? Well then why do world clubs import South Africans in such huge numbers? I'd love to stay in the Rugby Championship with NZ and Aus. But big money has decided and it looks inevitable that we'll be joining Scotland as the second African team in the 6N.Marylandolorian wrote: Thu Feb 17, 2022 3:21 pm Awful idea when you see the type of rugby SA offers plus the money they won’t bring .
Doesn’t World Rugby want to add a world clubs championship also or some like that?
The 5 Nations will be better, with a duration of 4 weeks with one team resting each weekend.

I'm a bit surprised by that, it's not really a game that's attracted the sneering dickheads in the way football tends to. Appreciate the location, if nothing else, is painful for anyone who has to travel any significant way.Slick wrote: Thu Feb 17, 2022 3:51 pmIt's that and the thunderous braying.inactionman wrote: Thu Feb 17, 2022 3:42 pmCurious reply. Nah, I have had some of my best rugby days at Twickers when I lived down there in all seriousness, but it is my least favourite of the 6N fixtures to travel too as an away supporter.
They're cheap, they're massive, and they're available for almost the entire season.FalseBayFC wrote: Thu Feb 17, 2022 3:48 pmWell then why do world clubs import South Africans in such huge numbers? Because it's your coaching and national mindset about how to play that's at fault, not the raw athletic merits of your players. Get them into coaching set ups that ask them to do more than just run into people or who partner them up with other players who do more than that and rugby that isn't the equivalent of eye cancer can be played. Also bear in mind that most clubs rarely have more than a handful of South Africans, there might be a lot of them sprinkled among the leagues in total, but they're not so sought after that clubs completely overhaul their rosters (Sale being a notable exception).FalseBayFC wrote: Thu Feb 17, 2022 3:48 pmWell then why do world clubs import South Africans in such huge numbers? The sense I always have is Twickenham is a game in a big city without novelty for Brits. Edinburgh/Cardiff are cities of a size where the matchday takes over the city. London/Paris/Rome aren't. Rome and Paris have the excitement of being 'properly' away with a very different culture and all that entails. SdF is fine but is in a crap part of town with nowhere to drink round it. Still, being away in Paris has it's own charms. Stadio Olimpico is in the middle of absolutely nowhere but who complains about going to Rome? Etc etc.inactionman wrote: Thu Feb 17, 2022 4:01 pmI'm a bit surprised by that, it's not really a game that's attracted the sneering dickheads in the way football tends to. I've not actually had many awaydays - mostly got my England home games through old club which took up bulk of my day passes - but on England-Wales matchdays we got an influx of Welsh clowns in Bath who just seemed hell-bent on jeering and starting fights. Unsurprisingly I never enjoyed that, took all the fun and - as you can imagine - bonhomie right out of it. Sad part was there would be a bunch of lads from south Wales who just came for nice day out in a rugby-focused town and were very good value, leaving me wondering why they all couldn't be like that. Never had any trouble with Welsh fans at Twickenham, boisterous but very good natured. It's all context, I suppose.
