I was just thinking the same. 3 and a half decades for me, and people will be saying not a bad innings for me.Guy Smiley wrote: Fri Jul 08, 2022 4:22 am The closer I get to 82 the more it seems way too young...

He had an incredibly prolific career. I just checked out his filmography and he went non-stop from 1961 -2018. That's a 57 year stretch.
Not quite non-stop. His career appeared to be all but over in 1981 when he dropped out of the Holcroft Covenant following the death of his sister. He was also suffering at the time from the effects of his excessive drug use. However he managed to resurrect his career in the late 80s with films like Alien Nation and especially Misery, and worked pretty much constantly after then.FalseBayFC wrote: Fri Jul 08, 2022 6:00 am He had an incredibly prolific career. He was fantastic in so many films, but his best roles were probably in The Godfather, the Gambler, Rollerball and Misery.

Wow just remembered Misery now that you mention it. What a great film! Kathy Bates gave me nightmares after that.Lobby wrote: Fri Jul 08, 2022 6:38 amNot quite non-stop. Rollerball was a formative film of my youth. Aged 10, my mate Sean said his older brother, Clyde (they had a Scottish dad) had this cool film on video that was really violent. We watched all the matches and fast forwarded through the boring bits in between.
It's still a great film and part of that 70s "future dystopia" movement. Set in 2018.

I was probably around 21 and remember going to the cinema to see it with some mates. The sound of the skaters roaring around the track was awesome. I think we were a touch late getting there and that was the 1st thing we saw as we were taking our seats - definitely a film that worked far better in the cinema than on tv. Probably not a great film (6.6 on IMDB) but, for me, a memorable one.Hal Jordan wrote: Fri Jul 08, 2022 8:08 pm Rollerball was a formative film of my youth. Handsome bastard with a kind face.
Great in everything. My favourite of his was Dogville, when he was a merciless killer, dealing out death and retribution, because to not do so would be 'arrogant".
