.... won't involve Ireland this RWC, because the IRFU have just handed Farrell Sr another two year contract, to take him off the market till 2025

He's done a brilliant job.

I'm not sure Ireland are a collection of better players now than they were a few years ago, but as a collective they are playing very good rugby, and the buck stops at Farrell for that.

I wasn't convinced at the time of his appointment, & Mike Catt's appointment definitely didn't inspire confidence, but you can't argue with results, & it isn't his fault we don't have enough player depth in key positions.

I think every country suffers from depth problems, particularly in positions like tighthead prop and fly half - probably the two most important positions on the park.

Even South Africa, with a ridiculously competitive schools system that produces very high quality players who go abroad because they don't find contracts at home, even there they struggle to find fly halfs who would trouble selectors for an Earth XV v Mars XV match

Yeah, have to say that I thought it was a bit knee jerk from IRFU but he has done a great job. They had a small wobble but he seems to have brought the group back stronger, it's very impressive. And incredibly annoying.

Scotland need to find 2-3 promising guys; not even necessarily former players, & send them off on a development journey like ROG; junior coach in the SH, then more senior coach outside of Scotland, then head coach at a top level team, & then see whose doing best & bring them home.

It's every bit as hard to develop good coaches, & Scotland, like Ireland, is too small & cliquish, so the best man isn't always picked, & petty relationship shit can interfere, so they're better off just getting out of the Country.
