Apologies if RR but haven't seen much chat around this.
Wasps seem in real financial shit - having recently defaulted on repaying a bond to their investors https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/inv ... stors.html
Compounding this is the state of the pitch in Coventry, that caused CCFC's opening match to be cancelled and a Cup game to be relocated to Burton.
There's a major war of words between CCFC and Wasps, Coventry claiming that promised investment in the pitch hasn't arisen and Wasps hinting strongly that they felt the pitch was playable and the damage came from the Commonwealth 7s. Regardless, a club with troubled finances has just lost out on revenues from two matches.
Incidentally whilst the pitch doesn't look incredible I have also seen a lot worse in the Football League, being cynical I wonder whether the Football League have also had enough of Coventry's position as tenants and are trying to force the issue.
So dark times. Wasps owing £30m to investors with a truculent tenant who wants their landlord gone and not an immediate solution. Assets the club could sell?
- Premier Rugby shares, I'm sure Ealing would snap them up
- Training ground, reasonably valuable land
- The stadium, if CCFC can afford to buy it they will kick Wasps out, the only question is when
- In contract players
Looking pretty bleak and a few Wasps fans wondering if they'll actually start the season.
Wasps GOOOOOOOOIIIIIINGGGGG?

Certainly looks like they are in serious difficulty. The economic climate is starting to bite for a few clubs at the moment.
There have also been multiple reports of players and suppliers being paid late by Worcester recently.

Wasps released a statement on the pitch. In short it's the responsibility of the commonwealth games until the 14th, and their responsibility to ensure its condition. Ccfc knew this when they came back, and wanted to organise matches on it anyway, commonwealth games agreed to allow it.
Give a man a fire and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.

Pictures of said pitch in this article.
IMHO it looks like a rugby pitch at the end of the season, and football has been played on far worse. Cov claim it looks better than it would play but who's to say.
The challenge is that CCFC are probably going to try and force the issue here. If they flatly say no to playing on that they'll play elsewhere, likely sue Wasps and suck revenue away from matchdays which would have strong attendances. If Wasps relay the pitch there's almost zero chance that it will 'take' in time for rugby in September and could well cause safety issues at scrums. No simple solutions, suspect both clubs are lawyering up.

I've been kinda bored with top flight rugby's predictable attritional style the last few years, so as a Wasps supporter it might be fun watching amateur rugby for a while.
Will Ealing wear a tiny Wasp logo on their shirts like LIR did for Scottish and Richmond?

What are the Premiership rules about a club being allowed to play when it is technically insolvent?
They could go and ground share with Derby County............

If the club spokesman is right then I don't really see how this is our problem. Cov City prevaricated over confirming they were going to continue being tenents, we signed a contract with the Commonwealth Games for the 7s, Cov then decided to stick with us and we advised them of the likelihood of the pitch not being ready for them for the first few games. Onus is on them to find an alternative and they've had a long old time to do so.Torquemada 1420 wrote: Sat Aug 13, 2022 7:31 pm Wasps holes get bigger

1) When "City had previously been advised that they should switch their opening few home games of the season, as the pitch would never have been ready in time after such heavy use "
2) And whether the tenancy agreement permitted that.
