Disconnect any sensitive electronics, & get the sandbags out, the heatwave is going to break in spectacular fashion, with a slow moving light show, & shitloads of rain, if the current thunder, & lightening moving across Ireland is anything to go by.
We're at 1000ft altitude, established plants in the garden are still wilting in the heat haze and up to four f#cking ovens going full pelt at work.

Well that's three power ripples in the last 30 minutes, & I've now unplugged everything but the TV, & my laptop. T&L almost continuous for the last 4 hours.
Rain isn't too bad, but I'm glad the ground isn't as parched as it is in GB; lots of rain, all at once, on baked dry ground is a recipe for flash floods.

Radar shows rain passed over me an hour ago..Think it evaporated before it hit the ground as bone dry outside...

Yup. Ground is like concrete (the bits that aren't already concrete) so it will all run off immediately. Flash flood time.

Been raining fairly lightly here for about three hours. I’ve actually got puddles on the pavings.

Lucky bastard!
Last week we were forecast a solid drenching today. That changed to showers later in the week, then light showers over the weekend and then a drizzle due this afternoon. We've not had a drop and there is no rain forecast for the next 10 days!!!!!

Heavy rain with the ground this dry will just see the whole lot run off to drainage.

Installed a couple of rainwater butts last night in addition to the one I'd done last week. All 3 nearly full now.
Downside, the solar hasn't produced much at all for a couple of days, today is the first time we've had to draw from the grid.

We have suffered through an "atmospheric river" for the past week.
The poor buggers at the top of the south island had over a metre of rain in a couple of days and hundreds of homes had to be evacuated.

Traditionally wet weather fronts hitting the UK came from the south-west. My impression now is that many more come from the north-west over NI and Scotland so that means the South East gets even less rain than in the past.
I’ve read that “senior Conservatives” have a plan to import water from Wales and maybe the north of England via a “Boris Canal”. Well I say plan, that’s probably being generous to them.

Let's hope it doesn't double as sewage outflow then

Just checked the long range forecast for Hertfordshire. No rain forecast until 9th September
The start of the rugby season will certainly be pushed back beyond then. Our pitches are completely unplayable and all contact has been banned.

Embra is getting a bit better with some rain in recent days/week or so. Golf course has greened up quite a bit and turf is softer and more playable, however it is still hard underneath. Played yesterday afternoon and had a bit of rain and drizzle which is better than the heavy rain as ground can soak it up. Looking dry for next week or so though.

It’s becoming dangerous diving in the outfield at cricket - that’s how dry it is. Ripped most of the skin off my forearm Saturday and I know a bloke concussed himself in a another match. Barring serious rain I can’t see rugby being viable for the best part of a month

Our lads have been training for 5 or 6 weeks now and have not had a scrum practise yet. Head coach forbade any contact after the first session so only touch and fitness Chairman of rugby sent round a video of him attempting to hammer in a tent peg in the middle of the 1st team pitch.............he couldn't!!!
None of the grass seed has germinated so bald patches everywhere and still the RFU prevaricate on pushiing the season back

Take care our North American friends Oh and a Merry Christmas!!!!
More than 200 million people in nearly every US state are under various winter weather alerts, including for wind chill, ice and heavy snow, as a huge winter storm system threatens travel chaos and one of the coldest Christmas days on record.
Temperatures in Colorado on Thursday dipped to a record-breaking low of -9F (-22.7C) from 42F (5.5C), while Cheyenne, Wyoming, recorded its greatest one-hour temperature drop, plunging from 43F to 3F in the space of 30 minutes.
The NWS said temperatures of -50F to -70F were possible over the weekend in some parts of the US, warning that even in big metropolitan areas such as Des Moines, Iowa, frostbite could become a significant danger.
Montana
23 Dec minimum -32 Celsius
24 Dec minimum -2 Celsius

Cyclone Gabrielle has us lined up - the waikato River is already at near flood levels from ongoing weather but this one could be the final straw - and with it very strong winds. Somehow, I think the east coast is the danger zone though
The whole of the north island is under a weather watch/warning with Red warnings for Coromandel and East Cape. We are as ready as we can be but my house has huge amounts of glass so we are vulnerable to flying debris
The old catch phrase "once in a hundred year storm/flood" is now well and truly redundant.
