Autumn Internationals 2022

It's been said before, but I do like the SH touring sides adding a Club v Touring side to their fixture list !

Connacht fans still enjoy remembering how they gave the Jake Whites SA side a bloody good test before they went on to win the RWC.
South African coach Jacques Nienaber says a clash with Munster will give his touring side "exactly the type of test they need" as they build towards next year's World Cup.

The Irish Examiner yesterday revealed plans to stage a meeting between Munster and a South Africa XV at Páirc Uí Chaoimh on November 10.

The Boks play Ireland at the Aviva Stadium the previous Saturday, November 5, before travelling to Marseille to meet France on November 12.

The GAA’s Central Council will review the request by Cork GAA to stage the game next Saturday. But even if permission is not granted, the fixture will go ahead at Thomond Park in Limerick.

It'd be nice to have it down i Cork too, & I'm sure the Munster branch have done the sums & worked out the extra money from hosting in Páirc Uí Chaoimh, versus Thomond .

We, the supporters, say this annually, a 1 country tour with a couple of club games would be magnificent. What does our opinion matter though.

How far apart are Thomond and the other one? Bit sad to see even a club team cashing in by moving it from the historic ground.

Indeed, but just imagine if Newport had been able to play the All Blacks in a ground large enough to accommodate the 500,000 Welshmen who would later claim to have been there to see their historic win in 1963.

😀

I remember when Munster beat the All Blacks, it was the talk of our school the next day, well, it was for those of us who gave a monkey’s about rugby

One of the best days I've ever had was watching Scotland A v Australia at Netherdale in 1996. Matt Burke, Tim Horan, Joe Roff et al. The atmosphere around Galashiels before and after the game is something I'll never forget.

108 km and it's a diabolical road between the two.
Background here is that while limerick is the main rugby base in munster*, Cork is the main population centre. Makes sense to spread some games around.

*worth a bit of a debate this because there's more players from west Cork (rural and not even remotely a traditional rugby area) in the squad than limerick men. Limerick has fallen off a cliff in terms of player production and there's no immediate prospect of a turnaround in this.

RasNaber contacts with Munster maybe help. They were looking for clubs, still looking I think. Most of that Boks play in the URC/Heineken.

Game appproved by GAA,
The GAA's Central Council have given the go-ahead for Munster to take on a South Africa select XV at Páirc Úi Chaoimh on 10 November.

It will be the first time that Munster will take on a touring Springboks outfit in the professional era and the decision by the GAA's top brass means the game can take place at the Cork venue which has a capacity of 45,000.

...
After opening their campaign against Ireland on 5 November at the Aviva Stadium, a non-Test selection will face Munster, before taking on France in Marseille on two days later.

Their second midweek game against Bristol Bears follows on 17 November, before further games with Italy and England
Now for any visiting saffers; the Cork lot are a bit strange, & they will insist that Murphys is a superior pint to Guinness, the best thing to do is just nod along, & pretend it doesn't taste like binbag drippings.

Some of the Franciscan Well beers aren't bad though.

I've long since accepted that the mid-week games on our EOYT are probably going to be losses. It just seems the home teams, even without their internationals, are super-motivated. But I don't mind it so much, if it allows some much-needed game time for the dirt-trackers.
