Sad news. Died in his sleep on a charity trek.

Bit of a shock.

Bloody hell, sad news
Always thought he was a bit verbose but always enjoyed him when Brian Moore was alongside. Especially when he was winding up Moore

RIP Eddie Butler. Loved his 5/6 Nations work. With Bill Mclaren and Starmer-Smith he was the voice of British rugby for me. I can't think of a similar Irish commentator though.

Liked Eddie.
Like him even more as he became indy curious..more broadminded..at the end and came to question whether us lot supporting rugby and getting madly passionate, pretendy nationalist for a commercialised sport, for a few weeks a year, was just a distraction and a sop or outlet for our nationalism, which we have then exhausted for the rest of the time.
That our love of Rugby is holding us back.
That without it, the Welsh pop would have to find more serious useful, and productive and less silly ways to express their nationalism, and patriotism.

This is such sad news, 65 is far too young.

Bit of a shock. When I saw the headline I thought it was going to have been one of those ones where he had been secretly battling cancer for a long time. In his sleep on a mountain.

Eddie Butler was the voice of the 6 Nations for me.

Sounds like they'd already done a week's trekking so was probably reasonably acclimatised. Cusco, where you fly into, is higher than that, and the mountain passes are over 4000m. That said, it's still a strain on the cardiovascular system. We did the Inca Trail for our honeymoon and even as a relatively fit long distance runner I had to take it slow at times.

Hit me more than many other deaths. I’m still just about at the stage where it’s a shock when somebody younger than me dies. 65 really is too young.
