Off to the big smile for a few days on half term.
Staying in an Airbnb in Covent Garden and taking In a few shows.

Any recommendations of not too obvious sights to see and decently priced eateries within walking distance.
Not a chance to daughter will eat anywhere that is "fancy" or expensive.

Can't wait to see Les Mis and Upstart Crow, have the London Eye and dungeons booked.

Want my daughter to experience London a bit more than just usual run of the mill tourist stuff we have planned.

Wilton's music hall in the east end is worth a visit

A stroll up the South Bank is always nice. There is an underground cafe not far from you called, I think The Crypt, under St Martin’s in the Fields - nothing special but a bit different. And obviously you have Soho and Chinatown on your doorstep for fun eateries

Borough Market is great and lots of good places to eat around it

Pile into Chinatown one night and choose somewhere that has more locals than tourists. Not sure if the Phoenix club's still free before 8 but always had a few things going on. Sam Smiths pubs are predictably brown but usually a very quiet pitstop for a breather on days you've walked yourself to a standstill.

Sometimes the simple and obvious stuff's never a bad starting point: wandering through Soho, South Bank, Brick Lane on a Sunday towards Columbia Road and finish up at the Royal Oak, Camden to Primrose Hill or Hampstead. Kings Cross of all places has lots more going on than it used to, all depends what you're (collectively) after.

steer clear of the piazza itslef for food, it's well overpriced. From memory there's a decent/pizzeria on the top end of endell st, just north of shorts gardens.

also, the london transport museum is in covent garden and pretty decent.

really depends what she's into. have a look at the sir john soames museum maybe?

When I lived in London in the mid '80s, you certainly wouldn't have been recommending the Kings Cross area as a place for a father and his 15 year old daughter to visit. !!!

Ecco Pizzas are absolutely fine and always dirt cheap, there'll be a few in that area.

Also used go to a lovely little sushi place called Tobiko that knocked 50% off everything in the afternoon after 4. Good for a bite on the go.

Right off to London tomorrow.

Any decent breakfast places? Earls was mentioned to me, don't want to eat at chains so am happy to walk to decent pp laces for food nearby to sample real London.

You could visit Charles Dickens’ house, which isn’t too far away

The British Library is always worth a visit, and a new exhibition about Alexander the Great has just opened.

Check out the featured exhibitions at Science, V&A and Natural History museums too. The free admission's fine but there can be some really great paid stuff too. They'd an absolutely amazing Cold War cultures one a while back.

Also, Brasserie Zedel's in your neck of the woods - worth a look. Plus the very reasonable food spots by The Cut and Lower Marsh.
