So, du Toit gets 3 weeks for an intentional assault which fractures an opponents eye socket and Dupont gets 4 weeks for his reckless but unintentional upending Kolbe.
And, again, the ban is not for the context (i.e. internationals): so Toulouse lose Dupont for 3 games including the HEC v Munster.
Rugby makes more of an arse of itself in its supposed attempts to eliminate dangerous play.

I believe the French player did not suffer a fractured eye socket? Anyway, them the beans, so deal with it.

Du Toit was shoved off balance. He came in recklessly and a red (and therefore a ban) is still the right decision for me, but I can understand the panel not throwing the book at him. Dupont had no such excuse, he chose his actions.

I think that is incredibly generous to Du Toit, it looked to me more like a moment of madness.
Just to add to the list, Richie Gray 3 weeks for something that no one seems quite able to explain. Plus, an Argentinian on the panel in the week we play Argentina. To be honest, I don't think for a second that the guy would be swayed by that, but why do WR put themselves in that position?!

Yeah the 'push' from Smith on du Toit looked pretty weak and unlikely to really affect the force or trajectory of what he was already in the process of doing.

It had absolutely no impact, watch it again, you can see DuToit launch himself using his knees at the French player, the push is just a smokescreen to try to downplay what was a very nasty assault.

The panel convened by video link. WR could have chosen anyone else, anyone.
It's just inept and unprofessional.

The push is a complete red herring. It is only given any credence because so many pundits are very, very recent ex-players so they're talking about their mates who would definitely never do something like that

I agree with what Torque said, both deserved a red but duToit should have gotten more than 3 weeks.
For me Du Toit came with the intention to hurt. Dupont was waiting to catch the ball and Kolbe jumped on him.
That gif is really dodgy. It speeds up the moment Du Toit is shoved (not by Kwagga, by the other one, changes his direction), and then slows back down again, to make it look like he's accelerating into it more than he was.

He is literally the nicest, cleanest pro forward with the same number of caps in the game! 1 yellow + 1 red in 58 tests for a flanker is a bloody marvel.

So nice and clean he pleaded not guilty to the charge (no pun intended)

I'd have gone with 2 weeks and 8 weeks, up from 6, for Torq's ridiculous overreaction.

Jesus, imagine the chaos if they based their decision making on this place

Toulouse and France full-back Thomas Ramos has been handed a five-week ban for two separate incidents in last weekend’s clash with Sale Sharks.
The 27-year-old was red carded in the final minute for headbutting Byron McGuigan but was cited for another incident earlier in the match.
Ramos was alleged to have made contact with the eye area of Sale’s Gus Warr
Gouge and headbutt = 5 weeks

You, as a ref, should know better than anyone that contact with the eye area =/= gouge every time, hence the wording of the offence. An actual gouge would be a high entry and even with maximum reductions wouldn't get anywhere near 5 weeks.
Technically he has received separate 5 and 4 weeks bans, but they're being allowed to run concurrently for some reason. The lesson there seems to be that if you're going to commit an act of foul play you might as well go for multiples because your ban will functionally only be the number of weeks incurred for the worst one.

TBH, I thought that calling that a headbutt was an insult to Yosser Hughes but he should have got more for stupid indiscipline.

True, but Hartley got four weeks for this so we know what the threshold is for so-called headbutts.

Not particularly outstanding. Hamish Watson 58 internationals one yellow card. Peter O’Mahony ffs, one yellow one red in 90 internationals. Richie McCaw 140 plus, two yellow cards. Sean O’Brian 63 caps no cards.
