Health question....

Weird one, so feel free to shoot me down as a certified loon....
Any other blokes suffer from a persistent throat-clearing issue that they never suffered from until recently?
My wife noticed that I do a double "hummpff-hummpff" in my throat now to clear some phlem - this is new. I thought it might be acid-reflux, emailed GP and got prescribed Omeprazole for a few months, but it made no difference.
I noticed a guy at work next to me doing it too, then discussed it with the group and every bloke 40+ I know seems to have it too.
No women seem to have the symptom, just men.
You suffering too?

Not your age bracket, but my dad (60s) recently had to go on medication for some sort of hernia that was giving him this issue. He was also consistently spluttering while eating which is what really prompted him to get it checked out.

Nope, well definitely not hummpff-hummpff sound you mentioned anyway. I've said that out loud three times now and I think I might have made that sound more when I was a youngster playing with my little cars.

Have you ever been a smoker?
Lived in a dusty environment?
I have had problems for years, down to 20 odd years farming where dust is every where.
It has got much worse since I had Covid .
My bro in law has started having something similar to you but he did smoke for decades.
I live on Jakemans menthol lozenges which help to keep the air ways clear, barstewards have just put the price up by nearly 40% as well.

It happened to me. They also suggested acid reflux and Lanzoprazole cleared it up within a couple of weeks. Get the odd reoccurrence but the tablets sort it within 48 hours.

If you start having problems with swallowing/eating and/or get reflux might be worth getting your throat checked out for cancer. My dad ignored it for a year and by the time he had treatment it had spread.

Had it checked already, nothing to see. It’s not reflux, it’s months and months of post-nasal drip with no other cold-type symptoms.

Might be an allergic reaction to something? Anything changed in environment or diet? Even a change in washing powder/liquid can trigger a response.

One of my mates does this. With him it's Hayfever. Got worse as he's got older.

Unlikely to be acid reflux unless you are feeling a burning sensation. A couple of possible thoughts
1) Long COVID.
2) Something that is a little controversial: hyper allergic respiratory disease. Which seems to be somewhere on a scale below asthma.

Any new chemical plants nearby? Different crops growing?
Edit: Build up of POPs in people's bodies

Could just be a chronic Rhinitis issue. Therefore using a nasal cortico steroid would be a good call.
In reality the symptoms could be reflux as well imho as it's very common to have no pain.

That's interesting as I also have Rhinitis and use a nasal steroid when it flares up. No one suggested that could be causing the throat problem, but both started during Covid and I had never had any issues before. I always believed that I had Covid very early on in the pandemic before testing properly began so you do wonder if there is a connection.
