I’m not defending everything Lawson said, I assume you read the bit where I said I voted Remain. I just think the argument “You like Europe so you must like the EU” is a very weak one.

I completely understand Gog's point in this. There is no reason why the above should be "thick", let alone exceptionally so. Europe is a place. The EU is a political entity. They are very different.

I also think it's pretty arrogant of anyone to throw insults like that at someone who clearly thought for himself like Lawson, who (for instance) could see when so many others couldn't that lowering tax rates in the 80s might bring in more tax revenue.

Another line he had had to be his stupidest of all in how binary it was. We are Germanys most important market ergo they will.have to sign a trade deal quickly and on favourable terms. I think his stupidest line was that Northern Ireland wouldn't be a problem post Brexit because the natural thing would be for Ireland to come back under under home (British) rule.
