Yep. Instead of marshalls focused on looking after the horses welfare, by getting the loose horses out of the race, they were watching for dickheads gluing themselves to things.
How many NH races do you watch a year ?Margin__Walker wrote: Sat Apr 15, 2023 7:29 pm I'm with the hippies on this one.
Shit sport that kills horses, and did so again today. Fine if you're in to that, but it's not for me
None this year. Have seen it in the past though.fishfoodie wrote: Sat Apr 15, 2023 7:34 pmHow many NH races do you watch a year ?Margin__Walker wrote: Sat Apr 15, 2023 7:29 pm I'm with the hippies on this one.

You can't judge an entire sport by a single, very unique, race.Margin__Walker wrote: Sat Apr 15, 2023 7:36 pmNone this year. Apologies then. Shit race meet, assuming horses aren't being killed in comparable numbers during the rest of the NH season.fishfoodie wrote: Sat Apr 15, 2023 7:48 pmYou can't judge an entire sport by a single, very unique, race.
I think if you compared Rugby, to Racing in terms of the number of races, number of participants, & the fatality rate, you'd ban Rugby first.
The GN has particular problems, & first of those is too damn many runners; it's been called for years, & like today the way the loose horses get in the way. They've done a lot to make the fences & landings much, much safer, but the fundamental problem is just too many horses arriving at the 1st fence too fast.
Indeed; no one is paying Gavin Henson stud fees for riding their daughtersMargin__Walker wrote: Sat Apr 15, 2023 7:53 pmApologies then. Although rugby and racing has a fairly obvious difference.

I understand why they target the GN to get the big hits, but when we are killing billions of chicks and chickens a year plus millions of cows, sheep and pigs it does seem a little indulgent for the pricks to be honestMargin__Walker wrote: Sat Apr 15, 2023 7:53 pmApologies then. Doubt it. There were 189 horse deaths due to racing in 2019. Considering there are many more rugby players than racing horses, you would have to be talking about thousands of Rugby deaths each year.fishfoodie wrote: Sat Apr 15, 2023 7:48 pmYou can't judge an entire sport by a single, very unique, race.

Bullshit, you never see a horse killed at a rugby game. Anyway the GN is a cunt of a thing.fishfoodie wrote: Sat Apr 15, 2023 7:48 pmYou can't judge an entire sport by a single, very unique, race.

... just like the horses today, if the sport didn't exist, neither would these animals, & they wouldn't enjoy any life at all.
Are paddy power offering odds on that?Blackmac wrote: Sun Apr 16, 2023 9:00 am I keep hearing the mantra, if humans were dying doing a sport we would ban it. Dozens killed climbing in the highlands this year. Not a peep.
I'm no expert on horse racing but I presume these animals are useless for anything other than racing,so presumably if we ban the sport we would essentially lose all the horses, which I doubt anyone will maintain if they are of no use.
I played polo and polocrosse for 25 years and have owned dozens of horses. Yes ban jump racing. Its a ridiculous sport. Followed mostly by people who have never ridden a horse in their lives.EnergiseR2 wrote: Sun Apr 16, 2023 11:34 amNobody wants that to happen. I am not sure what you are trying to say? Ban jump racing? And as an added measure don't kill badgers or foxes? Are they inextricably linked? You do know farmers kill foxes for good reason don't you. They kill lambs. They are a dog. Get rid of sheep farming then the foxes can go mad. Badgers is TB. Get rid of cows and the badgers can run amok. Think a lad I knew was working on some way of killing off the parasite in badgers so they wouldn't spread TB. Send him a few bobFalseBayFC wrote: Sun Apr 16, 2023 11:28 am Yep. Significant reason for my distaste is that it all goes towards the coffers of the gambling industry.
That would be a forlorn hope. The National is an annual, equine butchery. It should be consigned to history along with bull fighting.fishfoodie wrote: Sat Apr 15, 2023 4:20 pm Hopefully the only injuries today are to the protestors !

Some people opposed to horse racing in principle due to the deaths. Some of whom misunderstand the way horses and ex racers are actually treated.
