ASM Clermont visit

For many years my son and I have had the Stade Marcel Michelin on our bucket list. Sadly, now that Edinburgh are drawn against them they are not the force they were.

But we are going anyway.

I have never been to that part of France, but we are thinking of going for 4 days, staying in Lyon and getting the train back and forth.

Does anyone have any insights into that part of the world that may be useful?

Thanks

I can recommend the chicken gizzard salad as well.

Just a warning, that is at the same time as the fetes de lumieres in Lyon, it will be packed and expect the hotels to be very expensive. However if you can put up with that, the lights are spectacular

I was thinking about going to this too. Any advice on routes? Looks like two hours on the train from Lyon, three and a half from Paris, is that right? Any Ryanair sheds posing as airports nearby?

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of Lyon. It's meant to be the gastro-centre of France and sure, you can get plenty of decent food there. At commensurate prices.

So, depends on how far you want to venture. Geneva is nearby!! The region around the Massif is quite pretty and Montelimar is as good a place to sample it.

As for ASM, enjoy it. They may be feeble but the atmosphere should still be febrile.

Paris to Lyon by train is as good a way to do it as any. Would suggest you get on the SNCF app (SNCF Connect). It's brilliant and is light years ahead of any service in the UK.

Cheers. Might even go eco friendly and train it all the way from Edinburgh.
