How come there doesn't seem to be a focused effort to have a female NFL/college football system?
We get female versions of other main sports shoved down our throats by the media (rightly in general, imo) but nada on American Football. With the amount of money involved at pro level, and the scholarships/infrastructure involved at college level, I find it strange that women haven't demanded a piece of the action, given the never ending debates in other sports.
In terms of physicality, women play rugby, box, do MMA etc., so I don't see a physical reason. American football must be seriously expensive to run a team, but I'm amazed that the issue of why are the boys getting all the money hasn't came up yet.
I've seen some bikini American Football games online. Big fan but lacking the violence of the male version.
Serious and non-serious answers welcome.

Only 4 women in America can throw properly. Not enough quarterbacks for a 10 team league.

Even if it was wanted by enough girls and women, I'd imagine anyone who puts money into sport is looking at what a spectacular failure the WNBA is and going "Fuck no."

No doubt that it would fail like all female sports that are compared to their male equivalents, from an economic perspective. I'm a big advocate of women's football (soccer) and want to see that succeed, in the sense were more opportunities are afforded to youngsters to take up the sport like my own daughters have had. But its just never going to be in the conversation with the men's game when it comes to pro sport, yet the girls and the media aren't going down without an almighty fist fight for equality.
But as a point of principle in an age where principle seems to trump logic and economics, why haven't women had a real pop at American football? Women in the US seem quite into watching the sport so the interest is there.

If you make a balls of changing your engine oil, the lesson to learn is not to never change your oil ever again. I'm sure there's lots of lessons to be learnt, but I don't think "women can't be in professional sport" is one of them. On the other hand, the WNBA has apparently almost doubled its revenues over the last 4 years, so maybe it's on the right track? After all the MLS lost a fuck ton of money in its earlier years (decades?). AFLW seems to make money.
I know fuck all about it to be honest, except that people love to constantly take a giant shit on the idea of women's sports and have done so for close on a hundred years (women can't run a marathon, their uterus will fall out - seriously!)
With regard to college sports though there is Title IX in the US that means that they must give equal funding to women's sports as they do to men's sports. I'm guessing this goes more into things like athletics, tennis, golf, soccer and baseball than gridiron. The cost of developing a league would be huge and if that cost can't be set against their Title IX commitments then it will most likely never happen.

I don't think that is the lesson anyone's taken, more along the lines of "if women want professional sport, let them use someone else's money".
The WNBA may have increased revenues, but it still doesn't pay for itself. It's entire existence is owed to the NBA being willing to fund it. If you can get it, that's a fine model, but I suspect it's easier to do with basketball because the rosters are far smaller and there was already a player pool via high school and college programs. With American Football that whole infrastructure would need to be built in to provide a player pool before you ever get into the adult pro end of things. It'd be a hell of a thing to set up and require a lot of investment with little promise of ROI inside a generation or two. I can see why it hasn't been done yet.
Maybe someone could convince Musk that doing it would fuck with 'wokies' somehow.

I'm listening to a cool book about the College game in the US called The System by Jeff Benedict.
Sounds like Div 1 teams have 100-odd players, 90% of which are on free ride scholarships, get food money and free boarding, a ton of free equipment, and a lot of help with tutors to get through their class work. The colleges seem to run all of their sports programmes from the money made by the Football programme, even though most of them lose money. And then the best teams like Alabama, Oklahoma etc., normally have big swinging dick alumni who build new weights rooms or fund stadium expansions.
Would be a tough gig for women to get into from a standing start tbf, given there is no existing player base.
Do high schools in the US run girls football teams at least?

Some quick googling seems to indicate that it's fairly rare, flag football is more common.
One thing I did see is a few search results indicating an increase of female kickers on male teams, which is interesting because place kicking is often viewed as weakness in women's rugby and very few female players are considered to be much cop at it.

Interesting how equality seems to have blown right passed such a popular sport, when most other sports have a growing female game. Fair enough its not feesible at college/pro level as there are no players, but crazy that high schools don't seem to offer it, in effect banning girls from ever getting the chance to play.
Might send AOC and the Squad an email to highlight this huge oversight, see if it gets some traction . . . .
