Sort out your mobile roaming data plan before you go. You'll be living on Google Maps to get around and will rack up huge data charges if you're not careful.

Work phone

We have chaperones , hopefully female ones dressed in some kind of uniform, so I won’t be looking stuff up really

Electronics aren't a lot cheaper in my experience(depends on exchange rate) but you will likely see newer models of a lot of things that haven't released in Europe yet.
I know you're a bit of a philistine when it comes to food and restaurants  but make sure you are taken or steered towards a decent izakaya and a good tempura restaurant. The food in Japan is outrageosly good and varied.
You haven't said where you are going, I've been to Tokyo four times and it is the most bonkers place I've ever been to......it's fantastic!
I'm sure Kiwias will give you the locals heads up when he logs on

A passport. Might be one of the few decent first world countries left.

I was going to say that, as its Yeeb, used schoolgirls' knickers, but didn't want to lower the tone. However, I see Yeeb has already done so.

Yep, it didn't take him long! I'm not sure, but I think you can purchase used schoolgirls' knickers from vending machines in certain clubs!!!

You guys have been no help, was hoping for a globule tale of implausible coincidence and buying Walkmans in 1957 with the head of Toyota and the name of a place where I can get PlayStation 6’s etc

Looks now that the trip will be on hold , and might be in Crete which hasn’t caught fire yet. My thread fucking jinxed a visit to land of pixel porn :(

I spent a fortune on CD’s and vinyl when I lived there. Reissues that you couldn’t find anywhere else. Was quite a while ago though.
In general my impression was that the Japanese were keen hobbyists, enthusiasts, nerds. Old cars, old bikes, old clothes, fishing golf etc. From the mainstream to Stuff that might by niche here (not talking about porn) there would be a market there.
So if you have any interest/hobby at all, I’d look for local suppliers.

PS - stay away from Roppongi nightlife if you want any money left at the end

I probably wouldn't leave Akihabara

It's not like it used to be - most of the gear is similar in price to home

Is that the area where a friend tells me there is a special area for women who like dressing as schoolgirls, another one for fatties , another rockerbilly … basically you are directed to the street of your purve choice ?

I would head straight for the Electric guitar shop. Japanese Ibanez Jems and Pias are probably much much cheaper than the ones that arrive here, having been exported.

Not sure if they will tax the crap out of you when you carry them across borders back in the UK.

Could just say you are in a band etc.

Yo yogi park is where the actual cosplay kids, rockerbillies etc hang out i think
But if you’re an older gentleman who likes for example girls in school uniform, engaging your fantasy/ fetish for groping young girls on public transport or for golden showers, I’ve heard that those and more might be available to you in Roppongi.

My pal apparently prefers Maids, Airline stewardesses, and Nurses. I will tell him about your friends sage advice.
