To the big interview in the sky!
Broadcaster Sir Michael Parkinson has died at the age of 88, his family has confirmed.
His TV career spanned seven decades, and he interviewed the world's biggest stars on his long-running chat show.

Yeah loved his style ..... his Billy Connolly ones were great as were the Ali ones.
Also loved when his guests, were starting to get close to the bone and you could see him eyeing his director to see if they could continue.

I loved watching Parky's face when he knew what was happening on his show was gold. His Ali interviews were particularly.
Was he the first proper 'conversational' interviewer? Very few have been able to get the kind of genuine responses from guests like Parkinson did - Graham Norton possibly the flag bearer for this now?
Big loss - seemed like a good, genuine guy - but - the Meg Ryan and Helen Mirren interviews.....the man certainly learned as he went.

Graham Norton seems to only get genuine responses out of todays s'lebs who are desperate to bare all and be their authentic selves anyway. Maybe I'm being a bit unfair. Parky did it in a different era when, like you say, it was gold.

Too young to know much about his interviews, but was a great patron of cricket in the Thames Valley and particularly Maidenhead CC, where he once very graciously congratulated me on my bowling and captaincy despite being their President and not having had any prompt to do so. A proper gentleman, RIP
