Sir Bobby Charlton -- farewell to a legend

Sir Bobby Charlton, survivor of the Munich disaster, founding member of the Busby Babes, central player in England's 1966 World Cup victory, and lifelong star for Manchester United, has passed away.
I will be eternally grateful that my big brother dragged me along to a cold and wet English Park that Wednesday night ( May 31, 1967) to watch Man United, the biggest stars being Charlton and Best.
He was the most unlikely looking superstar, short in stature, not exceedingly fast or athletic, already with thinning hair, and a quiet presence on the pitch. But he was godlike with the ball at his feet.
Farewell and RIP to a genuine legend.

A true gent and for a long time England's record scorer with 49 goals.
Probably the greatest testament to his importance was that United were relegated the season after he retired, albeit they won immediate promotion.

A little before my time but the stories of Charlton, Best and Law, The Holy Trinity, were legendary.
Football was my first love and it’s always sad when you hear news like this, but what a life and career he had, to be famous the world over for excelling in the most popular sport in the world and to be known as a courteous and kind man - that is a life well-lived.

Even as a Liverpool fan you couldn’t but admire Charlton, his career, his loyalty to United and the dignified manner in which he almost always carried himself.

Can't say it means much to me, I'm not even into snooker.
