Incidentally, it's never been won back to back in the six nations and I don't think this year will be any different.

Nailed on for the GS. Ireland are so expertly coached, they are very formulaic and people just slot in when needed.
They epitomise Gestalt theory.

I’ve never thought about that before.

That’s a great idea.

You probably need to ditch a couple too. Perhaps Wales and Scotland??

On a more serious note, France look lost without du Pont. Ireland next level It's going to be a massive June series against them.

It’s good to have some rugby back on. It’s been a while !

Especially for these teams. We haven’t seen them play since the WC quarter finals.

Suffocating in defence, clinical in the oppo's 22, solid set piece and rarely lose the collisions - hard to see any of the other sides coping with them unless they become victims of an unfortunate red - and their discipline is normally excellent as well - so more likely to happen to their oppo than them !

That's one of the benefits of keeping the ball & not just kicking it aimlessly away.

The onus is on the defender to not fuck up their tackle heights, & the more tackles they make, the more perilous the situation gets that you'll cop a card. Get inside the oppos 22, & the percentages get even worse !

Except that a lot of cards come from attackers clearing out at rucks !!

Ireland kick the shit out of it, bro. 33 kicks to France's 20 on Friday. JGP's relentless kicking accuracy allied to the catching prowess of the back three and Lowe's siege gun boot are a big part of their success. Absolutely no link between the kicking game and red cards.

Key word is "aimlessly". When it's on in the opposition half, ball is kept in hand.

The claim is that keeping ball in hand is what prevents the cards. Ireland kick the hell out of it. Aimless kick or accurate kick isn't going to be the deciding factor on whether it leads to more cards.

I am bloody nervous about the tour. Ireland look very good and they have our number. Our last win against them was when they toured here in 2016!

We are going to have to be at the top of our game, or Ireland are going to make history on another SH tour.

Part of the problem with having a player as good as Dupont is that the team can come to rely on him being brilliant rather than their structures and systems. He also rarely gets substituted, so his back ups have very little experience playing in tests. It takes a special player to overcome that and Lucu isn't that. France looked much better when Lucu went off and Le Garrec came on.

I don't think Lucu is as bad as he seemed to be on Friday, however, what you say is true.

There is rarely a 6N without a couple of twists and turns so not giving it to Ireland yet.

It's downright ludicrous that this is even a conversation after the first week. Favourites for the title sure, I'll take that, but being favourite is no sure thing. Grand Slam talk is fucking nuts until the final weekend.

I also wish I could say that no Irish are talking like this, but unfortunately all this crazy talk is quite common with the media at the moment. Pride comes before a fall and all that!

France is up and down (be aware Scotland) but as a neutral the Irish look a class above the rest. They got a special structure, even the u20s beating France at home.

Although all it takes is an Irish forward doing something idiotic early in a game a la POM in Cardiff in 2021 and all bets are off.

Good test to see if they can avoid shitting the bed.

Could easily have a 2012 scenario.
A few crucial injuries.
Porter gets crucified in the scrums.
England do their best belligerent refusal to lose.

Six nations are not won in Feb and there's a reason why nobody has done back to back slams.

So no points from the boot, England refuse to cede the white line and the feral home support create a hostile intimidating atmosphere, then panic sets in.
