Brilliant player.
I was a tad too young to really appreciate what he achieved with the '71 Lions in NZ.
Hard to believe he retired the following year at just 27 years old.

I saw three of the 1971 Lions tests vs ABs and the Canterbury match — he was superb.

I read Gareth Edwards’ autobiography when I was in my early teens, a long time ago now. Iirc when Edwards was called up to play for Wales, Barry John told him, “just throw it and I’ll catch it”
These names, Gareth Edwards, thankfully still with us, JPR Williams, Barry John, these names get passed down in rugby folklore
RIP
