The curse of Ben Youngs

Ben Spencer is not even going to make the revised England squad apparently.
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/rugby ... rence.html
The national coach will update his party with players from Bath, Worcester and Sale Sharks before a weekend training camp building up to the Barbarians fixture on October 25.
And Sportsmail understands despite his superb form for Bath, scrum-half Spencer will be left out along with wing Joe Cokanasiga.
What the fuck is Jones doing?

We may disagree on many things, but your venom for Jones' infatuation with Youngs is one thing that I cannot find fault with.

Unfuckingbelievable if true about Spencer. There's obviously something negative in Eddie's eyes about Spencer that absoluely nobody else can see
I'd have Spencer, Robson, Mitchell, Maunder, Randall, Venacott and even Care and Wigglesworth ahead of Youngs

Maybe Eddie is hoping to expose Youngs to corona to get rid of him for good?

A bit rusty off the left foot and not sure I could still bend down to feed the scrum. Otherwise I reckon so

Probably am being over twice Young's age and only having played SH 3 or 4 times in a 25 year playing career

Youngs has been useful in an England shirt in the past. However his liabilities are so well known it is starting to get a bit silly. Spencer is a better kicker and Robson is as good at sniping and taking initiative.

It's often been speculated that Youngs' kicking is what keeps him in the team (it sure as shit hasn't been his running game for a long time and his service only gets more consistent in its consistency), but both Spencer and Robson are superior in this area now and do literally anything else better too. It'll be madness not to bring both of them in, so Youngs and Heinz it'll be.

Isn't this just a training squad though and they can't bring a scrum half in unless another drops out?

General comment, not about this squad as it's not worth doing anything on that until the proper one is named. I fully expect Eddie not to make the appropriate changes with that one, though.
Last I checked each EPS squad can make 6 changes + any required for injuries. Willis in for Ludlam, Robson in for Youngs and Spencer in for Heinz. EASY.

The thing is, he isnt giving the likely replacements for Youngs enough game time with his phaffing about.
In the near future England will go into a match with 2 scrum halves with less than 20 caps between them.
Spencer 4 caps
Maunder 1
Robson 2
Heinz 13

This curse might be around for another three fucking years...
Eddie Jones talking more bollocks;
With Youngs able to become only the second man after Jason Leonard to reach a century of England caps if selected in Rome, Jones was asked whether this influenced his selection. “He’s a fine player, Ben,” Jones said. “When you’re on 99 you always want that single, don’t you? You’re always a bit edgy, you’re looking for the space, you’re looking at whether you want to do it in style or do it with a single. We’re conscious of that and we know it’s an important thing for him.
“But at the end of the day loyalty to a player is about performance. Ben knows he has to perform. The 100th game is important but the 150th game will be more important for him. That’s what he’s striving to do.”

It's bizarre that youngs and care have so many caps considering the quality England are awash with in other positions.

Imagine how slow he could be in another 51 games time ...

Dawson was the last great English scrum half, and he passed the ball like a breeze-block in a washing machine.

Some potential evidence into how Ben Youngs keeps getting picked.
He's an insufferable creep.
"I have never worked with anyone who knows the game as well as Eddie," Youngs said on Rugby Union Weekly.
Speaking to fellow England nine Danny Care on the BBC Radio 5 Live podcast, Youngs continues: "No one has ever come near.
"If he watched a game now, he could come up with a gameplan and exploit both teams' weaknesses within 10 minutes. It is incredible."

What we could do with him and Bracken at the moment, particularly Bracken (better, quicker passer).

But can they both box-kick?

Neither can do sycophancy or rimming to a standard anywhere near required to shift Youngs.

Spencer is about the level as Gareth Davies.

Not an issue if talented and coached well.
Dupont replacements are more experienced than he is after all

Seems unlikely (is this PT back, btw?). Spencer is a good organised systems player with a decent pass, a superb kicking game, and decent defensive nous, plus a lot of pace and scoring abilities. And he can kick goals, too. He does the basics very well and has plenty on top of that.

Fairly sure this is the stage where Eddie just hangs around stealing a pay cheque until he gets punted.
He's already done his turn around a shit team into a contender thing.
It definitely has its place, I'm just not sure he has a second act beyond the Rugby World Cup.

I'm still struggling to work out why he's been left out of the squad, he doesn't have any glaring weaknesses in his game as far as I can see. From a club point of view, he's been a major point of difference for Bath since Lockdown.
