Thanks for the concern fellas. Left Mangawhai on Wednesday so missed the flooding. Seemed to be the story of our trip. Missed the worst of it even during the middle of the cyclone.

Now back in Christchurch and have just had the joyous experience of turning my alarm back on for tomorrow morning ...

I've driven a lot of roads in the last couplenof weeks and to my surprise not one of them ended up in Rome. One did up at a very nice cart by a lovely beach making and selling delicious real fruit icecream ...

Indeed I have. Had an excellent creamy red ale made by the Bay of Islands brewery. Unfortunately only available on tap at the Duke of Malborough in Russel. And had some solid offerings ...

If it's any consolation their Hoki wasn't that great and there chips were a but ordinary. Piahia fish and chips were better, although they didn't have fresh hapuka, and their chips were also a bit ordinary.

We've made it to Mangonui. Roads were fine. It's stopped raining and the sun is threatening to break out. Just had some delicious fresh locally caught Hapuku at the Mangonui fish shop.

Sister in Mangawhai saying power might be out for a week. They have a small gennie but not sure it can run all fridges and freezers. Also, their cooking is all electric so not sure how that's going.

Daughter trapped down at Tara Iti golf course , but they have full generation so OK there ...

Yes, it's an anticoagulant. Not sure if it increases blood pressure though. Think the main side effects are potential bleeding, so they often have to apply a warfarin reversal protocol if the patient is undergoing surgery or has a trauma event.

They said on the old fashioned live TV news this morning that in one of the states unused to so many postal ballots they are taking it slow and checking everything 5 times to ensure the count is as accurate as possible.
