Struggling to post the picture of the lovely wine gums there!
Soor Plooms - a quarter of - in a paper bag

Yes it will rip the top of your mouth to pieces , but on the positive side , its the only sweet that commemorates the killing of a raiding party from England which were overwhelmed and killed by local men from Galashiels when discovered eating unripe plums.

I do enjoy Jethart Snails and Moffet Toffees as well. As for Hawick Balls, well, enough said.

Cool. If I’m desperate I’ll have to try Amazon, or maybe the South African store.mat the expat wrote: Tue Apr 27, 2021 12:59 pmI found some today in the city - lush!Fangle wrote: Sun Apr 25, 2021 8:09 pm The other day I was thinking of fruit pastilles (Rowntrees?). Really missing them.

They're easily found in Saffa now. Actually got a roll at an Engen woolies last week. Addictive though.Fangle wrote: Tue Apr 27, 2021 1:11 pmCool. His were iodine flavourNiegs wrote: Tue Apr 27, 2021 7:22 pm Do these things count? I'd rather them as smaller, oval candies rather than the full stick though I've never seen that sort of thing in the range of flavours these have (have seen racks with triple the number of flavours).
Uter approved!

We, the consumer, are to blame apparently. This is what happens when global fat cats put profit before social responsibility - Snifters, Tangy Fruits and Sparkles get the cutYmx wrote: Tue Apr 27, 2021 7:10 pm I didn’t know until I was back in NZ that snifters had ceased.
I want someone to burn in hell over that. Who’s to blame?
I found something very similar to them in giant size, but not the same.

Another reminder that life is short and to cherish the confectionery you love while you have the chance.

A trip to Leura is on the cards!Niegs wrote: Tue Apr 27, 2021 11:00 pm This thread makes me want to open up a confectionery and bring back all the stuff that's gone. Who's in?!
Ottawa's is called Sugar Mountain... apt name if there ever was one! There's a Candy Safari where my best friend lives. But I don't think either produce much in-house.mat the expat wrote: Wed Apr 28, 2021 1:52 amA trip to Leura is on the cards!Niegs wrote: Tue Apr 27, 2021 11:00 pm This thread makes me want to open up a confectionery and bring back all the stuff that's gone. There's a Dirty Jobs episode where Mike works at one of those... it's messy, but probably the least 'dirty' of the jobs I've ever seen him do. Every time I see them scrape chocolate on the table to roll stuff in or whatever I wonder if - like me - they'd be licking the counter top after the camera's off?

I don't recall that Haribo was even a thing back in my sweet eating days ( admittedly well over 30 years ago) unless they were behind things better known under another name. I hadn't heard of them at all until about 15 years ago.

Licorice bullets. The ones covered in dark chocolate. I believe RJ's do them here in Straya.
