I know there has been rumours abounding about More South African teams joining the Pro1X!, but NZ look like they are going their own way and this is beginning to seem very real. In situations like this there is always talk about major change, for once it seems really like it might be on the cards... A bit of a shock tbh.

I'm repeating this everywhere I see it, but I think the best solution for the SH is to copy Europe - domestic comps plus an equivalent of the Heineken. They have forever been plagued by great teams playing in shit competitions, domestically and internationally. The current situation seems to have helped them stumble into something better - Super Rugby Aotearoa looks great, and for the saffers the Currie Cup is a terrific competition that people actually give a toss about. The Aussies need to work out their domestic comp.

If each year they were to play their domestic leagues over three months from March (10-12 games), then they have a summer test window, then a short, group based, maybe 12 team competition across the three can be set up that happens Aug-Oct, then November tours.

Let's face it, you could have built a luxury 15,000 seat stadium with Chesterfield seats, moving walkways and personal monkey butlers for every ticket holder and there would still have been people criticising it.

As an Edinburgh St holder, it looks good to me.

I watched the Canes Blues this morning. Cracker of a game in the cake tin. Good atmosphere despite being nowhere near full on a dreich night and the stands are miles from the pitch. It is possible.

Minifield hopefully won't even be used much with bigger games at Murrayfield and hopefully Edinburgh have a few. A waste of money.

Also Finlay Christie looks a pretty good player.

Why don’t you think it’s needed? I think it’s desperately needed. I’ve personally got close to zero interest in going to watch Edinburgh at Murrayfield but with a real home and a bit of atmosphere will probably give it a go. I think there are quite a few like me

The main thing is that it’s there. Glasgow found it far easier to build an identity and a solid support once they had a permanent home at Scotstoun. Embra really need something similar.

Jordan isn’t qualified, that was bullshit. Jamie Lyall reported as such a few months ago. He is England qualified though, so the ABs better tie him down quick.

As an aside, I do wonder what impact having the SR teams in the Pro16 will have on our South African imports. If the likes of Schoeman start getting a bit of press back home by dominating in the same league as (or directly against) the other SA teams then the pressure for them to be capped by SA could be intense. We had better get Duhan tied down ASAP.

I'm the opposite - I have been to BTM a few times when up in Edinburgh but I don't have the interest to sit in a temporary permanent stand at minifield.

I don't think the atmosphere will be any better either. I've never been the type to go to a sports game and make a lot of noise and I don't think that's too uncommon. I think Glasgow have done exceptionally well to create an atmosphere out of nowhere really. I would imagine scotstoun did help - but so did having generational world class talents all appearing at the same time and playing a brand of all court winning rugby we'll be lucky to see again for a while.

As far as minifield goes having the supports in front of the stands doesn't look great. Just build the stands as steep and as close to the sideline as possible (allowing for player safety) From the video looks like there's still a gap between them and the pitch which looks a bit frustrating. It's still going to windy as shite but that's to be expected.

I didn't like Myreside at all - the temporary stand I was in was uncomfortable and the view wasn't very good. I quite like a higher vantage point. Just didn't enjoy the experience. But you're right each to their own, I'm looking forward to going to the big games at Murrayfield but think I'll give minifield a miss.

Yeah, when they were discussing it many of us as season ticket holders made it quite clear that we wanted decent standing areas, and not to be relegated to one end. Two main reasons

1. It's fricking Baltic on some days through the winter, so sitting isn't attractive - huddling together for warmth and moving around is!
2. If you want to generate an atmosphere you need to have a way for those who want to make noise to congregate together, terracing is ideal for that.

Not getting any game time other than the odd stint here and there for London Scottish. We had 4 senior 9s on the books, which probably explains Steele being released. Expect Brand will be more involved next season.
