I love braaiing, my closest friends aswell. We do like in Rome, but we kuier all saam. Myself make a mean salad, and is not shy of the kitchen. She chase me away at times. You get your best communication in the kitchen. Only realize this after having kids.assfly wrote: Thu May 13, 2021 8:54 amFFS this is exactly the sort of gatekeeping I was talking aboutBig Nipper wrote: Thu May 13, 2021 8:48 am Well the women and the men chill together, not in two distinct groups. Do you honestly think the men and women at Handyman's house stay segregated the entire time?
I love to braai.
I'm working till 23h00 tonight.
Then a 2 minute walk home.
Light a fire.

Make a salad.
Open a bottle of wine.
Put the meat on the fire.
Braai and enjoy

May seem churlish but I prefer to braai. Fortunately I have a full pub that seats 6 comfortably around it plus 2 behind the bar. So its a communal area. There's also a dart board so everyone congregates there. Birds love playing darts. We have 2 lounges off that area. A smallish one and a very big one. Kids hang in the large lounge or in the kids rooms gaming. 3 Playstations and laptops. So we hardly see them until the food is ready and then its grab and go. We have an 8 to 10 seater dining room off the bar so that's where we eat. So I braai. Everyone else dops and parties and we sit at the table to eat. Adults only. We try to limit to 4 families invited. Can't trust the blokes to not vok up the meat. We try limit it to 6 hour sessions.

Geez man. When I light a fire, my boy is behind me with his little braai, getting kindling and asking for matches to light his own fire. That's the problem with children these days, all of their free time is spent indoors on tablets, phones, computers or games.Sards wrote: Fri May 14, 2021 7:37 amMay seem churlish but I prefer to braai. W3 pulled out some trees this week to create a bowling and batting strip for the boys. Just got to design some kind of net because we are going through balls like crazy. Neighbors don't throw them back over. But when finished the kids will be there hopefully. They all play cricket. And the dads. The braai area outside faces onto it so perfecthandyman wrote: Fri May 14, 2021 9:17 amGeez man. I spent some time in Brazil and they love their braais/churascarias. And their last and best cut of meat is always the picanya. What cut is that? Sweet, tender and tasty.
And for early snacks they have multiple skewers of chicken hearts. It took some while to try that, but I grew to like it.

Picanha is the very top of the rump or rump cap and delicious it is!Fangle wrote: Fri May 14, 2021 11:07 am I spent some time in Brazil and they love their braais/churascarias. And their last and best cut of meat is always the picanya. What cut is that? Sweet, tender and tasty.

Never got the point of it. Tough skin attached and sort of triangular shaped so the thickness varies and can't say much difference in taste.SaintK wrote: Fri May 14, 2021 12:27 pmPicanha is the very top of the rump or rump cap and delicious it is!Fangle wrote: Fri May 14, 2021 11:07 am I spent some time in Brazil and they love their braais/churascarias. Maybe an advantage these guys had is that their meat comes from the same Pampas as the Argentinian beef. All grass fed.SaintK wrote: Fri May 14, 2021 12:27 pmPicanha is the very top of the rump or rump cap and delicious it is!Fangle wrote: Fri May 14, 2021 11:07 am I spent some time in Brazil and they love their braais/churascarias. Takes the film / skin off the bottom.
The rump cap is great in the Weber or in Sards's microwave. Nicely seasoned and cooked whole.
Or cut into steaks if you like fat.
Ah vok. I had a Jalapeno steak roll from the missus s shop last night. It was so chewy and unpleasant. Too late for the supplier to replace so we took it home and replaced from another supplier. So tonight it is 3kgs of portioned fillet.
No picanya

Exactly. My MIL said something about scotch fillet. Thankfully we caught it early. Before anymore went out. It had sinew lines through the meat. Still has. Never seen this before. Busy fighting with the supplier.Chilli wrote: Sat May 15, 2021 9:58 amChewy fillet?????Sards wrote: Sat May 15, 2021 9:56 am Ah vok. I had a Jalapeno steak roll from the missus s shop last night. Ham and cheese??? No, cheese and tomato for the win. Some red onion for extra flavour.

Doing a burger night tonight. Watched Kenji Alt-Lopez's video on Burger Myths. Have bought brisket, Chuck and rump to make a blend in my mincer. Always disappointed with my home made burgers. So going to change it up with the meat. Will be doing them on a griddle over charcoal.
No problem sharing with AJsorCrer wrote: Fri May 28, 2021 9:20 amI'm sure Sards will share it with you.
