The best new and returning TV series thread
This week I've been watching a 5-part police drama called Viewpoint. Not great but worth a watch, so I stayed with it and was looking forward to seeing the finale today...but I'll never know the outcome coz the lead actor Noel Clarke has just been accused of being a sleazebag by more than 20 women and ITV have pulled the last episode!

You can watch it online. They just pulled it from live broadcast.Gumboot wrote: Fri Apr 30, 2021 9:42 pm This week I've been watching a 5-part police drama called Viewpoint. I used to live in Wellington. It’s brilliant fun seeing all the old places and spots.Cartman wrote: Sat May 01, 2021 12:20 pm Loving Wellington Paranormal. Find it very funny, especially last episode of season 1

I'll fire it in here, because we don't have an; "old & newly discovered TV series thread" ...
Thru one of those goggle search tangents; I discovered the TV series, "1990", from 1977, with the always excellent, Edward Woodward; & the equally excellent, & gorgeous, Barbara Kellerman.
Just finished Season 1; & If your like your SciFi dystopian, it's a diamond. No special effects; just brilliant writing & acting !
It's tag line was; "Nineteen Eighty-Four plus Six", & that's a spot on description; it takes Orwell, & adds the 70's level of experience of society & technology; & makes it much more credible.

Currently watching and enjoying Mare of Easttown and Mosquito Coast. They're good for brain in neutral mode.

Invincible on Amazon is every good.
Starstruck on Beeb is also very good. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p09djx02
Jupiter's Legacy is decent enough, so far better than expected.
Mare of Easttown has been very good so far.

I really enjoyed Fargo.
S4 is likely nothing to do with the others. They’re not really tied together.
But enjoy S1-3. Think I might re watch them after this.
There’s, I think a film too? Edit : yep dates back to 96.

Unforgotten one of the best shows on TV - I love the relationship between the two main charactersGrandpa wrote: Wed Apr 28, 2021 8:55 am Surprised Line of Duty is so popular. Have tried watching it, but it's plot lines and twists are just ridiculous... give me something like Unforgotten every day of the week.. classy crime show which doesn't need farcical plots to create suspense...

I've never seen it, but from this endorsement I presume it's a bit along the lines of brokeback mountain?Openside wrote: Wed May 12, 2021 9:00 pmUnforgotten one of the best shows on TV - I love the relationship between the two main charactersGrandpa wrote: Wed Apr 28, 2021 8:55 am Surprised Line of Duty is so popular. Social media is a problem for series like this. The writer is too aware of speculation & fan theories so tries to write around them and retcon plot developments in. I thought the H reveal wasn't actually that bad. It was the elevator exit and the characters becoming parodies of themselves that was beyond awful.Grandpa wrote: Wed Apr 28, 2021 8:55 am Surprised Line of Duty is so popular. I enjoyed it to start with, but thought the last episode was pretty underwhelming tbh. Hope it gets back on track this week...

I watch it in full every 2 years or so. Outstanding series - the greatest series.Ymx wrote: Fri May 14, 2021 7:19 pm Just started band of brothers. Been meaning to watch it for some time.
I was excited when The Pacific came out. But was so disappointed on my initial watch. BUT - I recently watched it again, without trying to compare it to Band of Brothers - and my opinion did a complete reversal. As a study of brotherhood and leadership - Band of Brothers is perfect. But as a study of the human spirit and what humans are capable of withstanding - The Pacific is a frikken masterpiece.

Stumbled across Invincible as I am a big Jason Mantzoukas fan. I had no idea what the story/world was - but holy heck - the end of the first episode certainly let me in on what it was about. Crazy.Insane_Homer wrote: Wed May 12, 2021 11:28 am Invincible on Amazon is every good.

Mare of Easttown was the wife's pick - I wasn't interested - but I'm really enjoying it. Just finished episode 5 - whew - it's a a slow ride but a good one.
Listening to an older We Have Ways pod the other day and they were talking about Masters of the Air from some of the BoB guys. Following some the US bomber command it should be released this year. For as much as I loved previous series and looking forward to this I'd love to see a British take.
Same with me. Someone bought me the Box set of Band of Brothers.. and I watch it every few years.. just brilliant...Thor Sedan wrote: Tue May 18, 2021 8:24 amI watch it in full every 2 years or so. And The Pacific... like you I was underwhelmed first time around... but watched it again recently... and got a lot more out of it.
