I like Arbikie, a Scots one made from spuds - the fact I got pissed up with the owner and have numerous bottles for free has nothing to do with this decision
That is because it is the purest of all the spirits, and the one least likely to give you a hangover, but there are some significant differences in tastes if you have the palette. Belvedere v Zubrovka v Crystal Skull all different tastes, Absolut not bad but avoid the Smirnoff Pond Water.
This was quite a revelation for me. On my first visit to Poland to meet an ex girlfriends parents the dad and I arsed a bottle one evening in shots. Felt pretty pissed but woke up the next day feeling fine.

An odd experience was going to a Polish wedding where there was literally nothing else to drink but vodka the whole day/night.
Did they give you some home made Cytronovka?

One of life's pleasures. Chilled vodka. Smoked Salo. Black bread.

Presumably. Somehow never really quite remember how good, bad or indifferent it tasted , the next day.

In Poland they make a drink called Cytrynówka, most bars sell it for a few zloty's a shot. Basically a home made Lemon vodka type drink which has an insidious kick. It is part Spritus (basically pure alchohol), half normal vodka, a whole bundle of lemons and some honey...every household makes their own, its bloody delicious. I have made my own and it was suprisingly good. They also use it as a medicine to ward off colds, flu, covid, bubonic plague and the like.

I do kind of remember something like that being brought out furtively by dad, then mum getting a bit irrate about him giving it to me. It's a distant memory though
