Is there any point in trying to understand modern right wing politics?

There are tons of references and links in the articles, you just have to follow them
Yet more disparities = systemic racism.

Okay, the second BMJ linked confirmed it.

Out of interest, what do you think the second link says?

It's just the language it uses and the fact it invoked the George Floyd gambit. I'll make a long term prediction and suggest that whatever racism exists in the NHS will get worse and they will do nothing about it. Note that I said racism, not structural racism.

Okay, fair enough. Reading that BMJ link meant I only had to go through the first couple of paragraphs to notice that the suspicions I outlined in my previous post were correct.

It appears that the BMJ classes systemic racism as the existence of disparities between races.

If that's what systemic racism is then the whole world is systemically racist and it always has been and always will be, so we may as well talk about the football.

It might be worth looking at why there is a disparity of outcomes for Covid patients of different ethnic backgrounds, just for starters, before looking for more in depth explanations to other points made in the piece.

https://assets.publishing.service.gov.u ... update.pdf

edit, the relevant paragraph is

The relationship between ethnicity and health is complex and likely to be the result of a
combination of factors. Firstly, people of BAME communities are likely to be at
increased risk of acquiring the infection. This is because BAME people are more likely
to live in urban areas (18), in overcrowded households (19), in deprived areas (20), and
have jobs that expose them to higher risk (21). People of BAME groups are also more
likely than people of White British ethnicity to be born abroad (22), which means they
may face additional barriers in accessing services that are created by, for example,
cultural and language differences

This is systemic racism, it's not a skinheaded knuckle-dragger shouting epithets
Yes, you are just confirming what I said.
If people had taken that attitude for the last few hundred years, we'd all still be peasants in the fields.

The thing about Conservatism is last century (and for a big moment during the Trump presidency) it was all about trickle down economics. Give the rich all the cash and wealth and opportunity will somehow trickle down to the rest of us.
This lie (trickle down economics is complete horseshit) kept things civilised on both sides for decades.

When that went, the rich(many of whom just inherited the lot) litterally had nothing else, nothing anywhere nearly as effective to justify us not taxing the living shit out of them...so they predictably (ontop of just wild conspiracy theories) went seriously fucking nasty, and it all became about smearing and slandering the living shit out of the UKs poor, sick and unemployed.
We had spiteful, hateful austerity rolled out on the UK, that killed 135 thousand people, sent millions to foodbanks and terrorised millions more, mainly by politicians with massive inheritances who married into wealth. Cameron, Iain Duncan Smith, Osbourne..
Charles Dickens was right about people who inherit or marry or are born into wealth, and them being the most loathsome people you can ever imagine. That they think the climb out of poverty to money is the most fulfilling thing anyone can ever do, but that it has been denied to them, and that resentment makes them spend their lives trying to make life extremely uncomfortable for poor people who they deeply resent, for not going after the thing that makes rich inherited people feel empty.

The fact is there is no reason why we shouldn't tax the wealthy until they just fuck off.
They avoid tax.
They make the political landscape just fucking toxic, so as to avoid tax,
They do not give two shits about the UK.
The austerity they rolled out killed 135 thousand people and was largely responsible for the massive death toll during the pandemic.
So to understand right wing conservatice politics, you have to just go to the core of it.
Money.

We didn't tax the rich until they have to fuck off last week, we didn't turn their mansions into homeless shelters. We probably won't next week either.
Conservative politics is all a bafoonish distraction to stop us looking at the rich.

Our day will come, comrade. Things don't look good at the moment, but it will come.
