Happy Father's Day buggers! I have had the house free from 8am this morning. At 11am I had a little breakfast braai and ate a 300g porterhouse with two fried eggs on sourdough. Accompanied by a quart of Black Label. Nice and warm here so I ate it on the stoep. I haven't had a cigarette in 25 years but it would have gone down a treat after that brekkie.

My T bone was amazing. Couldn't find an aged piece on Saturday so settled for a fresh piece and marinated it overnight. Son threw it on blasting hot coals and it was outstanding.
Must say we couldn't find pickled green pepper so settled for Szuan peppercorns and it did the job. Fantastic fathers day overall.

On Saturday night I made curried pineapple.
Yesterday we borrowed my Landlords Weber.
Stuffed and rolled a pork belly with prunes. Rubbed it with a homemade fennel & coriander seed rub.
1 hour and 15 minutes in the Weber.

Lovely smokey moist pork and sweet & spicy curried pineapple

Fucking Ace

Woolies is damn expensive but you get much better quality.

My sister shops there religiously and then complains that the cost of living in SA is so high

Lads, this is what happens when you are afraid of your wife. Let this be a lesson of what can happen if you don't stand your ground.

Stand my ground? FFS this isn't the 1950s, my wife and I are equals.

13 adults and 12 kids. I'm not spending the entire afternoon slaving in front of the coals to feed 25 people and look after the kids. Slow cooked the bolognaise the night before and actually managed to spend time chatting with our friends and playing with the kids..

Absolutely concur with you. Some older Saffers really have extremely fragile sense of manhood, there is no reason to spend the whole day in front of coals for kids ffs

Are we allowed potjies? I did a whole chicken in a potjie on Sunday afternoon.

In olive oil, I fried 2 onions, head of garlic, 3 large leeks all roughly chopped. Once softened, I deglazed with a cup of dry white wine and shot of brandy, I bunged in the chicken with a liberal amount of salt & pepper breast side down and let that cook over medium heat for an hour. Added 500ml of chicken stock, 2 big cubed (large dice size) po-ta-toes and 250g roughly chopped mushrooms and a teaspoon of chilli flake. Lid back on for another hour.
