Not a classic, but still nice to see Red Bull turning the screw.

Nikita Mazepin has been presented with a spinning top from his Haas Formula 1 team boss Guenther Steiner so he can “keep on Mazespinning.”

The Russian has suffered a number of spins so far during his rookie F1 season, leading to the creation of social media accounts and websites to track ‘When did Mazepin last spin?’.

Mazepin has spun twice during the Styrian Grand Prix weekend, with his first coming in second practice on Friday, before he nearly went full 360 at Turn 1 in final practice on Saturday morning.

With his regular pirouettes resulting in Mazepin becoming something of a ‘meme king’ on social media, Haas decided to give its driver his own spinning top game.

“It’s a little present for you, so you can keep on Mazespinning,” Steiner joked as he handed over the gift to his driver.

Fair play to Mazapin, he took it with good humour and good grace. Sky were talking to Steiner during the race and he was joking about it. We’re 30 off laps into the race and he hasn’t spun yet so it’s going well.

Mazespin has already spun on turn 3 and got in the road of Raikonnen, granted on the shitty pit entry, but also just turned in on Hamilton while Haas was on a slow lap. He does seem a liability.

Softer: C3, C4 and C5.

And Mercs still struggling to warm up C5s on a much cooler track.

Mercedes switch Hamilton and Bottas and then Norris takes Hamilton. That was some pace from Norris there.

It's not just about winning 1 race, it's about being the best all season. It's why Max and Red Bull won't beat Lewis again this year / mockers

Season is done. Give it to Verstappen. Red Bull on a different level - and with Max behind the wheel they are unbeatable.

How did Mercedes get so far behind in the space of one development??

Mercedes stopped developing the car...
Mercedes lost DAS which this car was designed to use...
Mercedes lost a big chunk of floor which is affecting their low-rake car design more...
Red Bull haven't stopped developing their car...
It's designed to maximize Verstappen's driving style...
Honda have upped their game considerably and now have the most powerful engine on the grid.

What's the general feeling about Lando as a person? He has come across to me as a bit of an arrogant dick but seems well liked around the paddock. Probably just a young guy getting used to all the demands of a job like that.

I agree with the 1st part.....but the 2nd is a fun discussion.

It's definitely much closer, but it feels like Merc suffered more from the aero/floor changes than lack of engine power. If that's cost them 3 tenths then Merc and RB would be pretty close on qualy pace and then the PUs are definitely close.

McLaren are demonstrating that they can build a customer car to challenge the factory car, even whilst integrating a new PU into their design. In contrast, Alpha Tauri are somewhere between works team and customer team and already had a Honda PU at the start of this season (plus there is probably some amount of knowledge sharing with their sister team) and they still can't compete on pace with McLaren. If the new Honda PU was more powerful than the Merc PU then you would expect AT to be competing more closely with McLaren. But they're still a tenth or 2 off in flat-out qualy pace, and a few more tenths on race pace.

Had it not been for McLaren's progress this year, it would probably be quite clear that the Honda PU was most powerful. However, McLaren's pace and that it looks like they're still on a development path to continually improve their chassis/aero package year-on-year suggests they could get even more out of the Merc PU next year, were it not for the regs changes. Likewise, Merc are getting less from the PU now because of the aero/floor changes.

Also, as an aside, I think Toto mentioned bringing an upgrade for Silverstone, so I don't think they've really stopped developing the car yet.

The upgrades are the tail end of development routes Mercedes went down many months ago. They're not new developments as such. At least that's how Andrew Shovlin and James Allison described them in F1 podcasts I've listened to in the last few weeks.

Regards McLaren, it difficult to judge how much is the car and how much is Norris at the moment.

He was as indulged and financially backed as much as Stroll, Latifi or Mazepin was as a youngster. His father is not a billionaire but he's worth about half a billion.

Yeah, fair point, it also sounds like the changes to the floor regs basically ruined all their wind tunnel / CFD calibration so the effort to get that back makes any more development pointless.

I went on Thursday with a couple of mates for the first time. Really enjoyed it and it was a bit less manic than I gather Friday-Sunday can be.

For me the best bit is seeing a load of historic racing cars close up, in the pits and then seeing them blasting up the hillclimb a couple of hours later.

The variety is excellent. A 1930s Alfa followed by a drift car! My mates are bike enthusiasts so seeing loads of Barry Sheene's bikes was a highlight for them.

Overriding take away from it all:-

Loud, smelly petrol engines are awesome!

Electric cars might be quick, but fuck me they are boring as shit to watch & completely underwhelming.

Lando mugged for his £40k team watch in the car park at Wembley on Sunday as he was climbing into his McLaren... lessons to be learnt I think...

So turns out, on Sunday there was this Orangey Gold coloured Mclaren behind me in the train of cars leaving Goodwood, eventually with a bit of gap and clear road he got a run on me and the car infront and passed us, not to long after I got passed the slow fuck in front of me too and caught up to the Mclaren again in the traffic and followed him all the way to Guildford. Was wondering if it might be Lando or Zac Brown at the time...

Then I saw the news reports of Lando being mugged and there's a picture of him with that Mclaren, his Mclaren! Will confirm on my Dashcam when I get home

I didn't see but didn't really watch the bikes.

Loudest was either the very spiffy Lambo that lost a wing mirror on Saturday or the BMW M1.

Not sure blaming Lando for being mugged is the right way to go on that one.

It was in an official Wembley car park, presumably for VIPs etc. He did nothing wrong.
