Was the vaccine centre busy? Good if so.

1 dose of Astrazeneca is 83% effective against hospitalisation from South African/Brazilian variant (they have the same key mutation). 48% effective against symptomatic infection from SA/BRA variant.
After 2 doses that is almost certainly over 90% effective against hospitalisation.
Have the ANC got enough water to wash away the blood on their hands?

More than 1 in 4 testing positive for Covid-19 as SA deaths rise to 62 171
I was under the impression that it was by appointment only.
Western Cape officially allows walk-ins of 50+

Lost a friend Sunday evening. He had trouble breathing and tested positive last week Thursday, was told to buy his own oxygen and go home as the hospitals are full. His wife said he looked to be better on Saturday. Sunday morning she woke up with him no longer breathing next to her. Poor woman, she and the kids were completely dependent on him.

I got something on FB explaining that the vaccine comes in packs of five. Unused vaccines in the pack are destroyed.
So I'd say you have a one in five chance of not getting vaccinated without an appointment if you go at the end of the day.
................................................should really be by appointment.

................should really be available for any one willing to take it
People are dropping like flies. Two years down the road and the state is still arguing what flavour they want.

Why? If people are willing, and there is stock and capacity to administer...why not?

If you are registered on the EVDS you don't need an appointment if you go to a public site or to dischem, or some other pharmacies
And public sites should be able to register you at the site itself. All you need to do is turn up with your ID or passport

BioNTech/Pfizer vials can be kept between 2 and 8 degrees c for 31 days
Each vial contains 5 or 6 doses depending on syringe used
vials need to be used or disposed of within 12 hours of being opened.

Just because it's on FB doesn't mean it's wrong.
Besides, I mentioned its provenance precisely so that people can make up their own minds on whether it's worth pitching without an appointment.
Another strange comment.Calculon wrote: Tue Jul 06, 2021 8:45 am You're like my elderly mom who believes all the shit she reads on social media
I'm passing the information on. I'm also making sure you understand where it comes from.
It's up to you to believe it or not.
Personally, I think it's a fairly reasonable assumption to make if you want to go to a clinic without an appointment: I've heard of plenty of people (some on here) who have done just that and have been vaccinated.
What is a reasonable assumption? The "pack of five" is such an obvious load of bollocks. Even if you are ignorant, a few minutes of internet search will set you right. If you pass on nonsense that you find on social media expect to be called out on it.Rinkals wrote: Tue Jul 06, 2021 9:44 amAnother strange comment.Calculon wrote: Tue Jul 06, 2021 8:45 am You're like my elderly mom who believes all the shit she reads on social media

Under 50s who need to to travel outside SA are now eligible for the vaccine

Ja the doctor said even if they both come back positive, it's not a big deal as it comes and goes in kids without them even knowing.Calculon wrote: Tue Jul 06, 2021 12:22 pm Good luck, the symptoms in kids are usually pretty mild so maybe it is something else.

One of my co-workers got a message today that her 2-year-old's teacher has tested positive.
So now all the parents and kids need to isolate for 10 days. Yikes.
It's a tricky one with schools. Here they've vaccinated all teachers, and then the kids are told to follow protocol as best as reasonably possible. But the reality is it's a free-for-all and I'm sure there must be high transmission rates.Blake wrote: Tue Jul 06, 2021 4:28 pm Good luck.
