And Madagascar who lost heavily to Namibia beat Cote d'Ivoire in Abidjan who beat Namibia! Cote d'Ivoire 19 - 24 Madagascar.
But despite that Namibia and Cote d'Ivoire qualify for the quarter finals and join Kenya, Senegal, Zimbabwe and Burkina Faso; plus two of Uganda, Algeria and Ghana ( most likely the first tow of those).
Still hard to see Namibia not winning this .

Are most of these teams made up of locals or are there lots of expats?assfly wrote: Mon Jul 12, 2021 8:03 am Saw the first half of the Kenya Zambia match. Big gulf in quality between the two.
I see that Kenya have a Fijian-born flyhalf, Jone Kubu. Apparently came over here a few years ago to play rugby and settled.
I've spent a little bit of time in Senegal and often though if they turned to rugby they could do some damage, a lot of very big athletic guys
All the money you made will never buy back your soul
Most of the national teams are almost entirely locals. This Fijian lad is the first expat I've seen playing for the national team.Slick wrote: Mon Jul 12, 2021 8:06 am Are most of these teams made up of locals or are there lots of expats?

When you go down to the club level there is more of a mixture of expats.
Not sure about Senegal, but in Kenya there is a strong history of rugby. There are a handful of schools that turn out most of their best players, and a very vibrant club league. Interestingly it's the Luo tribe in western Kenya that produces the most Kenyan players. They make them very big out there.
I once came across a club training in Kampala and wandered over and held some bags, was very impressed with the whole thing and very surprised to be honest. Appreciate you guys posting this information as I'd like to know more about the game in Africa.assfly wrote: Mon Jul 12, 2021 8:14 amMost of the national teams are almost entirely locals. There is huge potential on the continent. Kenya has done well on the back of the success of the 7s team to attract international coaches, which has also helped raise the standard of the local game. But we still have issues of corruption finding it's way into the game. Money that gets sent by the government to support the national team often doesn't find it's way to the bottom.
It's great to see a lot of the games being shown live on YouTube which is bound to help with exposure. Let's hope more teams can start pushing Namibia for the coveted 2nd best team in Africa spot.

There is an active domestic league, but most likely the international squad was formed of players living in France, their best player Georges Mendy for example plays with USA Limoges. Mostly at Fed 2/3 level thoughSlick wrote: Mon Jul 12, 2021 8:06 amAre most of these teams made up of locals or are there lots of expats?assfly wrote: Mon Jul 12, 2021 8:03 am Saw the first half of the Kenya Zambia match.
