The tournament will get off to a flying start with the highly anticipated encounter between Rio 2016 Olympic champions Fiji and hosts Japan in the opening match of the men’s competition at 09:00 local time (GMT+9) on 26 July.
Another highlight in the men’s schedule sees antipodean rivals New Zealand and Australia take to the pitch in the final match in Pool A on 27 July.
The men’s competition will culminate with the gold medal match at 18:00 local time on 28 July.
The women’s competition gets underway on 29 July when France face Fiji. The 10,000 fans permitted inside Tokyo Stadium will be looking forward to the fourth match of the day when Japan start their campaign against reigning Olympic champions Australia.
The women’s gold medal match will take place at 18:00 local time on 31 July, as part of ‘Super Saturday’ – traditionally a highlight of the Games.
In June, the 12 men’s and 12 women’s teams were allocated to three pools of four, according to rankings based upon performances in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series and other World Rugby sanctioned tournaments over the past two years

Caster didn't qualify for the Olympics , Wayde van Niekerk at the last minute, Garrick Higgo our Paul Roos golf hero will play but its to much for Louis Oosthuizen.
Kind of lost a bit of interest in this.
Used to particularly love the athletics but now we have to carry on pretending that the East Africans aren’t all off their tits on juice as they sweep the board I can’t be arsed

A few differences though. It took ages to realise what the Germans were doing and we took a sledgehammer to the Russians

I think the reality is that the testing system remains several years behind the doping tech.
Well, yes. But that’s a gross misunderstanding of what is happening in East Africa at the moment and for the last decadeTichtheid wrote: Fri Jul 09, 2021 8:34 pmNot to mention some high profile Canadians and Americans.

Yes, a predominately white country that hasn’t existed for 3 decades also used to dope and yes western athletes still dope, so can we now talk about East African athletes at the 2021 Olympics?
Doping in the region is very widespread but quite different from lots of other places in that it is largely uncoordinated and although not state sponsored or sanctioned is at least tolerated. A lot of it is driven by unscrupulous managers in to make a quick buck then discard the young athletes, many of whom don’t even know they are doping. A lot of training is done at remote locations where it is impossible for testers to just turn up and and test and of course there is plenty of corruption, like elsewhere, of local in-competition testing. EPO etc can also be bought over the counter in shops, no questions asked.
What is interesting in recent years is the coordination between athletes in the region. For instance when the heat is turning up in Kenya, suddenly a lot of the athletes turn up training in Ethiopia etc.
Probably fair to mention that I had a senior Kenyan government and diplomatic figure round for dinner a couple of weeks ago who was part of President Kenyattas delegation to WADA a couple of years back who, although certainly not open about this, was happy to discuss aspects of it.

All events in Tokyo, Saitama, Kanagawa, Fukushima, and Chiba will have no spectators at all, while events in other prefectures further from Tokyo will permit up to 50% of capacity or a maximum of 10,000 (the lower of the two).
Tokyo has just imposed its 4th state of emergency, till 22 August, so the entire Olympics will be held in a state of emergency -- fucking ludicrous.
I am glad that I turned down the offer to be on the ground crew at both Ajinomoto Stadium (rugby 7s) and the National Stadium.

That is a complete misunderstanding what I was saying. I don't give a monkey's about colour or nationality when it comes to doping in sport.
The fact is that it has been widespread for decades and the authorities are always playing catch up, so much so that I'm not actually sure we should ban substances, but make the athletes fully aware of potential consequences for their health.
Are the Japanese all ok with the games going ahead now?Kiwias wrote: Sat Jul 10, 2021 11:53 am All events in Tokyo, Saitama, Kanagawa, Fukushima, and Chiba will have no spectators at all, while events in other prefectures further from Tokyo will permit up to 50% of capacity or a maximum of 10,000 (the lower of the two).

Or are the IOC and Japanese government pushing on with it against local wishes?

Depending on the survey you read, anything from 60~80% of the public would prefer the games were cancelled. The IOC and Japanese govt have too much invested in the entire circus for them to back down now.SaintK wrote: Sun Jul 11, 2021 10:31 amAre the Japanese all ok with the games going ahead now?Kiwias wrote: Sat Jul 10, 2021 11:53 am All events in Tokyo, Saitama, Kanagawa, Fukushima, and Chiba will have no spectators at all, while events in other prefectures further from Tokyo will permit up to 50% of capacity or a maximum of 10,000 (the lower of the two).

Talk about a turnaround in historic meetings. If I read that correctly, Nigeria has previously lost matches to the US by 40 and 80-odd points!?
Yep ...
... but from the recent match, KD getting stuffed!

Yes, I guessed as much!
Just reported that the SA 7s representatives all arrived safely and tested negative for covid19 on arrival however have had to enter quarantine because a passenger on the same flight tested positive. As a result, the squad will probably not be able to have the scheduled training camp.

Maybe both the men's and women's sprint relay teams in with an outside chance of a bronze

Really? You have never had a slip of the tongue, he corrected himself immediately or are you suggesting he only did it because he only sees 'yellow' people rather than two nationalities...Kiwias wrote: Wed Jul 14, 2021 6:03 am IOC chairman Bach proving what a total cunt he is, at 0.11 in this clip.

I can accept that it was merely a slip of the tongue but either way, he does not come out looking good. It is not as if he is under much pressure as he spends half his life doing greeting speeches like that.Openside wrote: Mon Jul 19, 2021 8:50 amReally?
